Timeshare condos in Colombia. Who knew?

Was in Las Vegas last weekend and attended a timeshare sales pitch (no interest in buying; was only there because of the free dinner and free casino chips they threw my way to entice me in). In trying to sell me on the tradeability of timeshare weeks the sales guy brought out the catalog of the timeshare swapping group they're associated with, called Interval International (I think). Anyway lo and behold there are actually timeshare condos available in Colombia. They had several properties on the coast (Cartagena and Santa Marta/Rodadero), I think one on San Andres, and surprisingly two in Valle de Cauca.

There are salespeople all over San Andres that will offer you a "presentation" at the Sunrise Hotel that is nothing but a sales pitch for RCI, which is a big timeshare group that includes several places in Colombia.

Yeah, Yeah I have a timeshare in Lake Tahoe and have traded it to go to Santa Marta, Colombia. The facilities are top notch and really remind you of a 5 star place in the US. Zuana Beach is a nice establishment. The price you pay for a weeks accomodations is also less that two nights at a nice hotel.

My brother-in-law has a timeshare on the Colombian coast. They were able to trade a week for a week at a condo in Orlando when they went to Disneyworld.

How much do these timesharing cost? Website?

Annual Drug Deaths: Tobacco: 395,000, Alcohol: 125,000, 'Legal' Drugs: 38,000, Illegal Drug Overdoses: 5,200, Marijuana: 0. Considering government subsidies of tobacco, just what is our government protecting us from in the drug war?--Ralph Nader

I've seen ads for week 47 at Zuana Beach near Santa Marta for COP$15,000,000. Look on the metrocuadrado website.

I would not buy a timeshare in Colombia. Buy one in the states and exchange it for use in Colombia. Foreign real estate can be tricky and there are rules that might not be brought to your attention till after you have shelled out your money. I know I was listening to a presentation in Cancun for perks and found out that a foreigner who buys a timeshare Mexico can only own it for 50 years max then it is no longer yours. The one I bougth in the US is mine forver and can be passed down to relatives or children.

RJQ, there is an option in timeshares to purchase a time share interval which in reality is a long term lease (right to use). These tend to be less expensive. I have heard of as long as 20 or 25 years, but I have never heard of a 50 year interval. Some of these can also be for every other year. With these options, you could buy a time share for a few thousand dollars and still have all of the exchange rights as if you bought it forever (deeded)..

Yes Sir, my time share in Tahoe is every other year but it is has no year restrictions on it. I got a good deal on it and just favor buying in the states versus foreign countries to avoid suprises of that nature. The 50 year thing was on a timeshare in Cancun, Mexico.
