Being married to a Costéna (Barranquillera), I've had the pleasure to discover some of the finer dinning the north coastal region has to offer. Delightful dishes such as Ponche (Chiguiro), Coporo (Iguana), Galápago (Turtle), Chivo (Goat) and variety of Pescado (Fish) too large to mention from both the river and the sea (my favorite being the Sierra). Just curious as to other dinning experiences pertaining to this region that I've not yet had the pleasure to indulge in?
Elmo.........I eagerly await YOUR responce on this one!
Bon Appetit!!!

carolain11 says on May 15, 2005, 15:01: you shouldn't be eating turtles, are you sure they're galapagos?? perhaps they're hicoteas... anyways, most of the time, animals like iguanas and turtles (in danger of extinction) are ilegally hunted

boomer says on May 16, 2005, 07:32: carolain.............. Perhaps it was "hicoteas" that I indulged in Colombia? This was many years ago, before global political correctness became fashionable. I'm not suggesting that people from all over the world visit Colombia to seek out these animals for their dinning pleasure. Only to relate their past experiences for it's entertainment value. Now, go enjoy your tofu and have a good day. orgullo_de_colombia 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

elmodefoque says on May 16, 2005, 07:47: Boomer, I ate all the dishes you mentioned. I used to eat iguanas on a stick but not anymore, sometimes I eat iguana eggs but it has become illegal. iguana eggs with shot of ron blanco is a typical corroncho cusine. As for fish, there is nothing like bocachico and mojarra frita con patacones y arroz con coco, in Puerto Colombia. any colombianita willing to date me, IS UP TO NO GOOD 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

carolain11 says on May 16, 2005, 10:06: sweetie I was born in Barranquilla, and lived there most of my life...i hate tofu, but i find iguana eggs absolutely disgusting, plus it is animal cruelty, and yes, I'm absolutely sure you had hicoteas and not galapagos, and I don't know how legal that is nowadays, because of "caza indiscriminada" and the methods they use aren't very orthodox... I remember being a little girl walking down calle 72 with my mom, and she always stopped on the corner of 20 de julio con 72 to buy huevos de iguana... my favorite there was heladeria americana with the frozomalt, I was in BAQ a month ago, and didn't have a chance to have one, I so regret it. and suero is also one of my favorites, I bought a "litro de suero" donde el pile, and it was only $5.000 COP. If you ever go back to bquilla, I'd suggest you go to the corner of colegio lourdes cra 50 con clle 72, after 5 pm, a guy has an arepa stand, with chicken, chorizo, butifarra, chicharron and salsa tartara to die for... and they're only $4.000
