I don't think there's really anything THAT interesting to see that would involve making a special effort to go there. I took a bus ride from Baq. to Cartagena for sight seeing and to visit more family. I believe it took roughly 2 hours. Cartagena is definitely a tourist spot with things of interest and history to see. You will have a good time there. Don't buy any cuban cigars from the vendors on the streets there. My cousin who's a police officer there said they are pretty much all fakes.

seammckenna126 says on Jan 25, 2006, 17:28: oops Yeah, I forgot. sorry. As far as I know, this year it's the last weekend in Feb. Rooms will be booking up very quickly. I went to one of the parades last year with my friend and my soon to be wife. I had a good time. Nothing to overly rowdy. Also, just a tip....if your going to the parade sit in the bleachers, get there early and also try to sit close to the edge. the beers in the bleacher section costs more, so what my friend and I did was stand next to the edge (your up on a platform) and we passed money to the beer venders outside of the bleacher section to buy cheaper beers. You may or may not want to do that. Luckly I dealt with an honest vendor and no one tried to take my money.

Miguel says on Jan 25, 2006, 22:38: Carnaval The pre-carnaval activities started in early January, and as seammckenna stated, the festivities culminate the last weekend of February, with the last day of carnaval being February 28. You can do a search here and find a link I posted that will take you to the official Carnaval web site.

mojoj1224 says on Jan 27, 2006, 11:22: Not much in Barranquilla to see... Not much tourist things to see in barranquilla, just alot of restraunts and shopping centers. It is just a big crazy city that seemingly does not pay much attention to traffic laws. People drive nutty there and even my friend from Bogota thought so too. Definetly worth experiencing and seeing for yourself. Only there can you ride in a cab that will drive backwards a couple blocks on a busy street or just plain get ran over by traffic. I was very nervous about the traffic there the first time, but after you have been there a couple times it is not such a rush anymore and have to look for new excitement.
