I have close relatives in new york, but I also have some cousins, aunts, uncles in medellin. The people in colombia are nicer, caring, and more loving than here in new york. I also love the beatiful mountains, scenery, farms, and not to mention the beautiful women.
I'm thinking of moving to Medellin to marry, have kids, raise a family, and live there. My family in New York think I'm crazy. They tell me the people in Medellin would die to come here to the US if they had the chance. Is this true?? Now, I am a computer professional working in New York. Is it very difficult finding work in the computer industry in Medellin?

elmodefoque says on Oct 12, 2006, 09:51: Guys, how could you not love this city? sure, we all know is a little expensive. Hey, I don’t like paying $12 dollars for a drink (gin and tonic) but do what I do; go to dives in the village and only during happy hours when is $2.50. There’s a lotta things to do when you’re poor. I eat at Papaya, 2 hot dogs and drink for $2.75 and I always save a piece of bread to sit on a park bench and feed the pigeons. Sometimes I wear a long trench coat and masturbate while checking out the hot blondes roller-skating in Central Park. I love this city but I’m also planning on going back to Colombia. I'll get there, when I get there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Brians says on Oct 12, 2006, 14:19: You are going to get crushed on this board today You don't know Spanish and want to move to Medellin and find work. I myself say go for it as you only live once. I am moving there in a few years myself. However it seems in this board everyone is going to tell you you are crazy. No work. Visa issues. Well not me. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I walk away from a lot of money if I leave my job before I turn 45. My friends at work etc. think I am crazy. I have a great job here and live well. The heck with it. I hate it here. I love Colombia and in five years I can live like a king. Anyway if I were younger and had nothing holding me back then I would try it also. What is the worst thing that can happen? You live there for awhile run out of money and can't find work. You have to come back to the USA because you can't afford to not work but now you have a great life experience. Then what if you can get work and a Visa and meet a beautiful woman. Then you are even better off. So go for it.

As far as all who are moving to Colombia from the US. Go for it. hey you can always return, unless you are not a US citizen. I am planning to move there once I finish college, hopefully this new so called "free trade" agreement with the US will open doors for people like me who work in logistics. Smile if you are a thinker! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

El bueno says on Oct 13, 2006, 18:43: To Agucho and then Panaca Are you serious!!? Medellin moore insecure than Cali! Hey man its obvious that you havent been in Medellin for a loooong time. Medellin is ten times more secure than Cali who is the most violent city in Colombia at the moment. I know what I am talking about because I live in Medellin.

PreciosaPaisita says on Oct 14, 2006, 20:36: Here's the main deal: The people who are in Colombia are dying to come here, and those who are here (u.s) can't wait to get back to Colombia. Without a doubt Colombia's a great place to be, im going to visit in about 8 weeks, to be there in December, which by the way is the best of time year there as you all probably know and agree. The deal with Colombia: if you have money, great, if not stay where you are. I mean, its completely different to go there on vacation as opposed to living there, just like anywhere. Medellin in particular is what I like to refer to as the best place on earth, especially in comparison to many places in the U.S. Oh and as for the job deal, I hear its very very hard to find jobs in Colombia, my best advice for you would be plan and research. Have your family down there help you find a job, before you go, have everything planned before you go. Colombia's a great place, so if you find a job and continue making money (obviously not as much as your making in New York) then i'd say to go for it. Money to some people is everything, to others its not. If your looking to be middle class, however VERY HAPPY, then yes, do it. :)

panaca says on Oct 19, 2006, 06:25: Still not sure I've been chatting with several women online from Medelln because I'd like to get to know someone so that the next time I go there I'll have someone to meet up with and date. When I tell them that I'd like to live in Medellin they are pretty surprised to hear that. They tell me it's very rare for an American to move to Medellin. They also tell me that getting a job in Medellin is so difficult that four year degrees or more cannot get jobs. You need to have connections with someone in order to land a decent job. They tell me to stay in New York where the pay is much better. On the other hand, I just like the atmosphere in Colombia better, I like the people, scenery, everything! Even though the job market is very bad and there is a civil war, I see the people from Medellin happier than New Yorkers; they are much friendlier and warmer. So I'm still not sure what to do with my future.
