Things to see in Bogota?

I'll be spending 3 days in Bogota next week. Whilst I'll be busy in the mornings, I was wondering if anyone could recommend things to SEE (more then things to DO) in the afternoons/evenings.

I mean, three afternoons aren't much, so what should be on my list of "things to see"?

Many anticipated thanks!

Take the Monseratte lift. The view is great up there. The Gold Museum, and those around there, are very interesting. The National Museum is great. La Candalaria[check spelling], La Calera, both of those are cool places. I have not been to the Salt Cathedral, but a trip there, via old steam engine train, people say is excellent. 3 days is enough time, to see all of these places. If you had another couple of days, I would recommend Villa de lleva, the spanish colonial town, but it is a 3 hour drive from Bogota, so you may want to do that on another trip. Hope you enjoy your time there, in my home away from home.

traveling hopefully is always better than arriving

Ipdiver - that sounds interesting - what shop is that??

I can't recommend the flea market at La Fontana - pretty expensive. Usaquen is nice to walk around and have lunch. San Andresito is great if you need a few DVD's or sunglasses. I would definitely go up Monserrate and get to the Gold Museum - you can't go wrong with them! The Salt Cathedral (Zipaquira) is amazing, but you might not have enough time.

okay johnny2009... how 'bout this, then: Darloup could try fleecing Ms Nelly encima de Monserrate, behind One of the Twelve Stages of the Cross, leading up to the church.

Hey Darloup, .. you must go have dinner in the Restaurante San Ysidro, atop Monserrate. (Now! This is something most gringos don't do, because most are too fokn cheap) By day or by night. It's a treat. One of the Best dining experiences ever. Anywhere. It's Five Star dining. The Ultimate in Ambience. The 'most attentive' Service. They always have their Eyes on ya, even when you think not, and they never miss a step,... they are there almost exactly when you need. These guys are professionals of the highest caliber. The food is very good. Very old, but Very Elegant.

Of course, if you are not yet married, .... you'll have to deal with 'The Curse'.... lol
Good Luck.

I am not having a go Darloup, I just think the suggestions are always the same, you might want to add to your list the Botero Collection if you are in that area anyway.

I am working on a list of 10 other things to do in Bogotá, maybe one day someone will be able to spend more than one afternoon there without running out of things to do

1. Spend some time in La Candelaria and Plaza Bolivar, Catedral Primada de Bogota, Museo Militar, Quinta de Bolivar, the Botero Collection. For for lunch seafood Mar de La Candelaria(be warned this is the government district so lunch tend to be a bit hetic. More than you can see in an afternoon.

2. The Gold museum-you can spend four or five hours here

3. Last but not least the cable car to the top of Monserrate.Restaurante San Ysidro, best done in the evening so you can watch the lights come on in Bogotá below.

4 Plan a dinner at the Nazca Restaurant (comida peruana ), at Calle 74 Cra 5. Not cheap but very good-forget Friday night with out a reservation.

Bogota for Foodies Questions:

I see a couple recommendations for San Isidro atop Monserrate. Is the food really that good or is it a place that people like because of the setting and views? There's a general rule here in the States that the higher in elevation a restaurant, and the more it revolves, the worse the food!

Has anyone been to both Leo Cocina y Cava and Estrella De Los Rios to compare the two? Am curious if you were to do one high-end modern Colombian dinner which of these you would pick? Both sound amazing.
