utopiacowboy says on Sep 4, 2005, 09:52: Even though she much prefers soccer, my wife has become a fan of "American" football since our 4 sons (2 hers, 2 mine) all play. So we spend Thursday watching the freshman team play (1 of mine and 1 of hers) followed by the junior varsity team (the other 2). On Friday we watch the varsity play because that is basically what everyone in Texas does on a Friday night. It's more of a social event to many people - I am sure half the audience could not tell you who won after the game is over - they spend the whole time chatting and visiting with friends and neighbors. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

adrimm says on Sep 4, 2005, 11:42: chocolate con queso We've been doing this for years and there is nothing more fun that scooping up a spoonful of melted goopy cheese laced with hot chocolate. I love it, but everyone here who hears of it finds it slightly gross (and yet we all tuck into chocolate cheesecake......)

Adrimm have you ever tried making a cheese and chocolate sandwich? You just put some pastillas de chocolate jet.. (or whatever you like) in between two pieces of chees and into the sandwich maker...Uhm!! it´s yummy. Crepes with chocolate and chees are also good!!

Rubiazo says on Sep 4, 2005, 20:04: Definitely a Colombian thing I've never seen anybody else do it. However I love nutella with ricotta cheese, or mascarpone, but those are semi-ripe cheeses and are more sweet than savory.

Michael B says on Sep 4, 2005, 22:05: Mario I've been to their big one on I-45 on the north side of town, but I suppose they have several. They have two here in Dallas that I know, maybe more. I lived in Houston for about 9 or 10 months back in 1999. I was working on a mainframe contract, making the world safe for Y2K. Didn't do much but go to work and eat dinner, then drove to Dallas and back every weekend to see my kids.

utopiacowboy says on Sep 6, 2005, 16:49: Not quite. No Fiestas in San Antonio or points west and south. In fact they are largely limited to Houston, DFW, Austin and Waco. The big supermarket chain here is HEB which extends down into Mexico. SweetNess says on Sep 15, 2005, 02:40: yummy Chocolate and Cheese!? two of my FAVORITE things! I'm gonna ask my mom about that and I'm totally gonna try it. As for weird food combinations, I grew up eating boiled potatoes dribbled with mayonnaise. A lot of people think it's gross, which I don't get because it's the same stuff in potato salad! I don't know if that's Colombian at all or just my mom being experimental 'cause she's a great cook. She also taught us to dunk McDonalds nuggets in honey. I personally love to dunk Champ's sesame chicken into their creamy broccoli and cheese soup. I also love mozzarella cheese with any slice of fruit, it just compliments well. YES, I'M PMS'ing and I'M HUNGRY... so let's talk more about food... jeje ;)

quindioman says on Sep 15, 2005, 02:50: soccerstud I don't think it's just the pregnant women that like mango biche with salt.....it's a big thing where I'm from in Armenia, the women love that stuff and they ain't even pregnant. Chontaduro with honey is very popular as well. I think the Colombians are one of the few countries that puts honey on their chicken (yummy).

SweetNess says on Sep 15, 2005, 03:08: chocolate One of my favorites which I haven't done in a while is to dip a plain bread stick (like a Stella Dora) in very hot chocolate. Dip it in half way for a few seconds and pull out (before it disintegrates... like a man! hee hee). It will be all puffy and it tastes really creamy (also like a man...!)

kernow62 says on Sep 15, 2005, 04:05: SweetNess my wife who lived in Bogotá all her life loves boiled potatoes and mayonnaise so perhaps it is a Colombian thing. Cheese and hot chocolate very common. Grren mango and salt is common on the coast too, nut my ex from Medellin was also fond of that both when pregnant and not. My ex also used to put saltine crackers in her coffee which I thought weird.
