These people try to rent at terrible prices on PBH

I cannot believe a Colombian would ever pay these prices shown on PBH.

Yes a great business. Buy a place, at a Colombian price of course, furnish to gringo standards, and then rent out a slightly lower than hotel rates to gringo sex tourists. I think it's a great idea. I don't know why more don't do this - the hotel business is awesome.

Actually my apartment in Cartagena rents to Colombian families as well as gringo sex tourists. The prices are the same. Generally it is the Colombians who pay 2 and 3 times the normal rate for high seasons.

They are market prices. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that it costs quite a bit more to rent a furnished apartment for 3 weeks than it would to rent it unfurnished for a year. It's like that everywhere in the world.

Here's a colombian agency with similar prices that clearly isn't targeting gringos

I haven't seen those terrible prices on PBH. But that's something about people's mind to think that.

Do you want to know how much a 60 m2 furnished nice apartment goes rented out at El Rodadero for Xmas or Semana Santa? It is 300K per day. Surely it is just Colombian renting it.
Posting an advice for that apartment on here, I would get eaten up.

I don't see you buying apartments and renting them out cheap...why not?

podborski says on Jan 29, 2008, 18:41:

if I won millions I'd keep it all, maybe give some to some close family members, and use it to build a business (probably buying and renovating apts) which would employ people and create wealth, maybe doubling or tripling the original amount over 5 or 10 years.

I'd keep doing that until I died, leaving all of it to a charity or person who would continue in the same vein.

Seems a little more useful than buying a bunch of people food for a day. But guess it doesn't make me sound like I'm trying to be a saint : )

theft is taking something of value that does not belong to you by the use of force or fraud.

It's not complicated, seems crystal clear to me. I still don't see what your definition could possibly be that would make a person who sells a service/product in a free, voluntary exchange a thief?

"If I won the MegaMillions lottery, I'd give 85% of it to the poor in Colombia, through various programs. The other 15% would go to my children (13%) and 2% to me."

Mario you are so full of shit. When that money hit your hands you would be singing a different tune.

Since were on the subject-
Giving away money to poor people does not help anything. The money has to go somewhere where it will help people get out of the mess, not just feed them for a week. Rich people don't give a bag of money to a poor person and say "use it for college"...because that person will just go buy something dumb with it. Those people set up scholarships for people who will actually use the money for college and make something of it. Our friend above started a business and employs people, which creates wealth, not disburses and dilutes it until it vanishes. A lot of programs for poor people just use up money...the money doesn't really go anywhere it gets used up and then they need more money.

Juli - you shouldn't be so bitter about sex tourists. Every post I read you take it upon yourself to bash the old gringo with some bitter rant. But these guys are supporting a lot of people in Colombia. Without these old crusty farts, how are the girls gonna make a living? Who is going to rent the apartments? Who is going to eat at the local restaurants and bars? FOR GOD SAKES WHO WILL YOU HAVE TO MAKE FUN OF?!??!!?!
I saw a documentary on Colombia last week (la sierra), and this girl was selling candy on buses making $5 a week because thats all she could do. She became a bar girl and now can support herself. I don't think she is hating on gringos very much.

Before you break your arm patting yourself on the back, Pepe, remember that my apartment and Juan's were up to Gringo standards in the same building as your penthouse before you even bought your penthouse. And then Bill's 2 apartments in Torre Marina across the street were finished before you even set foot in Laguito.

Feel free to use my first post here as a spring board for your comedy. I don't hate the gringo sex tourists - they bring money here. Re-read my initial post in this thread.

For the record the gringo and the girl all know what they are getting into and are consenting adults. Both fulfill a need for the other. Whatever their illusions, it's their business.

so why are you complaining in this post and another one you started about money?

Why is that people who claim money is not important always want some of mine, without doing anything for it?

The same ones always claim they are being ripped off by high prices, yet they never seem to be able to start a competing business, despite the 'obscene' profits business owners are making.

Something doesn't add up, and some people know what it is, and some will continue not getting it.

What a great place PepeA when I go back to Colombia with all the money I make here in the Philippines I may want to rent your place for a few hours. Do you have short time rentals? Honestly though your place looks fantastic and if I could afford to rent I sure would.

If gringos or the like do not want to rent your place they are free to go elsewhere. That's what they do int their own country. Not everyone can stay at the Hilton but those who can can. That's just the way it is. Allot of people think that because Colombia is a "3rd World" country they can get everything cheap. I mean try and buy a car or join a good gym in Colombia. Not everything is cheap in Colombia. That's just he way it is.
