AL PATIO
Al Patio is often referred to as the best Mexican restaurant in Medellin, which is a little worrying given that half the menu consists of distinctly non-Mexican food in the form of grilled fish and meat.
Perhaps, it's too much to ask to be immersed into a world of moustached Mexicans serenading your table, but something aside from the inclusion of burritos and quesadillas might help.
That said, Al Patio itself has never claimed to offer a comprehensive Mexican restaurant experience. Moreover, it does provide good food and good service in a sophisticated, intimate atmosphere.
Unsurprisingly, Al Patio also includes an open-air patio with some impressive views over the city from its prestigious, though slightly cold, location in Las Palmas.
PARQUE ECOTURISTICO EL SALADO
With a little imagination, Parque Ecoturistico’s abundance of plant life, crystal clear rivers and muddy pools come to life and you might just start to feel like you are some kind of Jungle Book character.
Indeed, just a short bus drive from Parque Envigado, you can morph into an array of tropical beasts as you clamber across rocky rivers like some kind of great ape, or lurk in one of many murky pools like the Enormous Crocodile himself. There are also canopies if imitating Tarzan is more up your tree.
So, it’s more popular with kids than adults, but you will at least want to take a dip in the river and the only way to do this successfully is a full blown plunge. The water is simply too cold to prolong the agony.
If you disapprove of getting wet, you might welcome one of many designated spots for brewing your own San Cocho, while the zona de comidas seems completed devoted to this traditional Sunday stew.
In short, Parque Ecoturistico El Salado is well worth the visit, although it might have more long-term appeal if the river was a little more ferocious or if there was more open space for laying down and soaking up the sun. If you are a tacano (tight person) or just don't have any money, you can splash about in the river just outside the gated area of the park for free. Indeed, many people do just that.
