Se reducen las muertes violentas en Bogotá
Fuente: CARACOL .

fearless7 says on Apr 7, 2004, 01:00: Maybe True recently,I've read in several newspapers in Colombia that the crime rate has decreased dramatically. Because of the decrease in it, tourism and commerce has increased. Sadly, this good news is not reported throughout the world. Another example of how Colombia is only in the news when its bad news. Although I've always disaproved Uribe's government and their polices, you have to give some credit where credit is deserved. Uribe has made on his promise with what he stated before he was elected. Depite his tactics fighting guerrillas and the cartel, which has some crying out human violations, Colombians feels safer where they live. They need not fear terrorist attacks many faced during the 90s when Pablo Escobar and the guerrillas went out and killed innocent people in order to get the government's attention. Again, I'm no Uribe fan. His greater attention to the U.S and not his neighboring countries will probably back fire at him and his willingness to have U.S security companies (mercenaries) come in Colombia to protect American companies is wrong, and thus, only makes me dislike his policies.

Mr. Hollywood says on Apr 7, 2004, 09:08: media reports This trend in decreasing violence has, in fact, been widely reported. There was a big piece in the Washington Post about a month ago noting that the murder rate in Bogota is roughly a third that of Washington D.C. and down dramatically from what it was in the recent past. Also, there have been several wire service stories about people travelling safely into regions that were previously off limits.

Mr. Hollywood says on Apr 7, 2004, 16:05: Big AP Story There's a very long and detailed story about the Bogota theater festival running on on the AP wire today. It mentions the conflict but juxtoposes the vast level of local and imported artistic talent against the perception that Colombia is nothing but war and cocaine.
