The Vanity of a Metaphysical Woman

I've seen this little survey that goes around the blog communities and I always have fun doing them. The usual way is to pick your favourite musical artist and answer using their songs but I decided to add a novel (pun intended) approach and chose to answer using the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I hope it amuses.

Kurt Vonnegut Ok so I did the same with Kurt Vonnegut.A great Amreican writer. next? DH lawrence for the pleasure of cockney colombian...

1. Are you male or female?... A glossy brunette. .. uniforms where white lipstick, heavy eye make-up, purple body stockings with nothing underneath and black leather boots… (Welcome to the Monkey House)

2. How old are you? I have been a writer since 1949

3. Describe yourself: I used to be a public relations man for General Electric and then I became a free-lance writer of so called “slick fiction Whether I improved myself morally by making the change I am not prepared to say.

4. How do some people feel about you? As the White Rock girl, kneeling on a boulder in a nightown, either looking for minnows or adoring her own reflection.

5. How do you feel about yourself? In the water I am beautiful

6. Describe an ex: God bless you, Mr. Rosewater

7. Describe your views on significant others and crushes: It is disgraceful that I should ever have wanted out of “it and I don’t want out anymore. I have six children, 3 of my own and 3 of my sister and they have turned out gloriously. My first marriage worked and continues to work.

8. Describe what you want: I still believe that peace and plenty and happiness can be worked out some way, I am a fool.. ( Jailbird)

9. Describe how you live: "My soul knows my meat is doing bad things, and is embarrassed. But my meat just keeps right on doing bad, dumb things." ( Bluebeard)

10. Describe how you love: "A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved." ( sirens of Titan)

11. Describe your friends: they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart." Sirens of titan)

12. Where will you be in 5 years? “I am committing suicide by cigarette

13. What are you most afraid of? Ethical birth control pills, the only legal form of birth control, made people numb from the waist down. Most men said their bottom halves felt like cold iron or balsa wood. Most women said their bottom halves felt like wet cotton or stale ginger ale…. The pills were ethical because they didn’t interfere with a persons ability to reproduce, which would have been unnatural and immoral. All the pills did was take every bit of pleasure out of sex.

14. Describe the world today:
WE COULD HAVE SAVED IT
BUT WE WERE TOO DOGGONE CHEAP ( Hocus Pocus)

15. Share a few words of wisdom:
"If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don't have the nerve to be
gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are
not a good way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more
bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your
soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell
stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you
possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created
something." V, Man Without a Country, page 24.

Excellent approch Lucia. Like I said I first saw this doing the rounds where you pick your favourite musical artist and answer using their tracks. I've done it a few times on different forums and varied it from time to time like pick your favourite TV show and answer using episode titles.

Quotes is a better approach with books than just titles, especially if you know the author really well, as you've done Lucia.

As for the "vanity of a metaphysical woman" it's a quote from the GGM short story Eva Is Inside Her Cat, which is about a beautiful woman who has died and eventually realises she's been reincarnated as her cat and has a hankering just to taste an orange one last time.
