The US Army a bunch of clowns, or what?

Sorry, this hasn't really got much to do with Colombia, but I'd thought I'd post it as there's so many Americans on this site:

Are the US Army a bunch of clowns or what?

In the last Gulf War, more British soldiers were killed by US "friendly fire". Now we've just recieved news that an RAF jet was shot down by US forces by mistake.

You'd think that a nation with such high gun ownership and gung-hoism would be better at this war thing.

What makes you so sure that these incidents were so called "friendly fire"?

After all, if I were an American general looking to divert attention away from the Iraqi death toll murdering a few British pilots and soldiers would be a sensible tactic.

Obviously, Tony Blair and George Bush agreed in advance how many such "friendly fire" incidents should take place. Trust me: there will be more such "accidents" in the days ahead.

Friendly fire causalties are always a risk no matter how well trained the forces, especially when waging a complex, high tech war on many fronts. Technology can malfunction, enemy troops and friendlies can be fighting at such close range that tragic mistakes are made when air support is called in. Decisons to take action or not take action in a particular life or death circumstance have to occur in a split second. These decisions made under extreme pressure in the chaos of the warzone. Soldiers do the best they can in these situations.

Your question clearly demonstrates your lack of understanding of military operations and the stresses and risks involved.

I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of all coalition soldiers who have been killed in the war with Iraq. And again, I hope for minimal loss of life among our coalition troops as well as innocent noncombatants.

And not to get to imperialistc(!), I also think you'd find that, if there was ever a league table of wars- with wins, losses and draws- that Britain would be heading it, with the US lagging in the bottom half, behind France even.

I for one don't think of the US Army as being a bunch of clowns. However, incidents of friendly fire casualties are definitely on the rise. In the first gulf war the UN estimates were that 51% of all Allied deaths were due to "friendly fire". Seems outrageous, but i don't know. Sadly, it's practice that makes perfect. I have a feeling that part of what we [the US] are doing in Iraq actually has to do with just that... practice.

If the US Army is a bunch of clowns, what is everyone else? Don't ever think our Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines could not pound any country we want into submission. Period. The end.

seems like you are in a dream world. Seems like we took out their entire armed forces in 2 days. Seems like we could take no prisoners if we wanted and destroy anybody and everybody in our path if we wanted. Seems like our armed forces are showing great discipline and restraint in trying to keep civilian casualties down and not terrorize everyone in their path. Seems like they are the worlds most professional and effective. Seems like you wish you could say this, but you can't. Sucks to be you sitting there wanting to be able to say this, with your delusions acting like we don't have the most professional, effective, and disciplined armed forces in the world. By the way, I still don't know what country you are from, I'd love to know...why don't you tell us? then I would be happy to let you know what I think of country and it's military machine and history.

Stop Kidding Yourself You do know why the US attacked Iraq instead of N.Korea, don't you? N.Korea brags about having WMD. Stop kidding yourself, you only attack defenseless countries that can't fight back.

We pounded Iraq into submission. Period. Is that why we are still getting blown away everyday and have had to go back to those unruly Europeans to ask for military/financial help? Now we will have to leave a Islamic government in place and hightail it out of there. I hope the new govermentin Iraq will be as submissive as we all believe.

and after further review... I'm not defending or ridiculing the war in Iraq....

However I will always defend American troops unless it is not warranted. I do find it necessary to address the person who started this post who appears to be British...

QUIT YOUR WHINING YOU PATHETIC BABY!!!! I AM SURE THAT THE LAST PERSON AN AMERICAN TROOP MEANT TO SHOOT BY ACCIDENT WAS A BRITISH OR OTHERWISE FRIENDLY TROOP!!!!

Furthermore, from a historical perspective if it wasn't for the US Army troops and their huge sacrifice in the world wars, your London might still to this day be being pummeled by German bombs and might now be called Londonberg. If it wasn't for US Army clowns doing the dirty work, you probably wouldn't even come to this forum because you would probably be speaking German.

Obviously, the US is not perfect but get real the US Army doesn't want these things to happen either and it's a tradgey that it happened. The US military has sacrificed more than it's fair share of lives to help other countries in need. (I can assure you we lost more than a few Americans in the liberation of Europe) If you want to bash US Policy and Politicians that is your choice. But to sit on the sidelines and bash the US Military when because it made a mistake is easy. It is even cowardly, you sit on the sidelines and bash the troops but I can definetly say that the US has sacrificed many more lives in helping its allies and other countries than it's allies have sacrificed in return. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and leave the dirty work to other people and than ridicule those folks if they make a mistake, but that is also what losers and cowards do.

A bunch of clowns? The "clowns" are young men and women who have possibly taken a life and have to live with that for the rest of their lives. Some of these "clowns" have decided that they can't live with that and have committed suicide. I think about a dozen of these "clowns" have done this so far in iraq. I hate conflict in any nation.

The U.S. Supreme court ruled that a southern state had to remove a marble statue of the Ten Commandments, yet we go to war and the U.S congress sings God Bless America. I don't get it?

I truly want OUT of the U.S. That's why I am here on this list.

Just a Sign of Desperation The anti-American protests and uprisings are signs of the Progress that America is making in Iraq. Atleast Iraqies are now free to say they hate us and to get out of their country! When Americans soldiers get kicked out of Iraqi cities by "a few thugs", it just shows how desperate those dead-end loser Iraqies are. It means that we are winning! God Bless the USA!
