The upside of war...

Didn't think there was one, but at least there will be less Americans in the world after a war. So that's one positive.

RE: The upside of war... I'm interested to know where the previous 2 commentors are from and in what country they live.

Aside from that, I doubt that what anyone who wishes to be responsible with his words and has given the issue fair contemplation would summarily advocate the death of any random person from within whatever group without regard for whether or not that person is good or bad or whether that person's offenses really merit death.

Admittedly, the US government and even many estadounidense individuals, have failed to take a responsible, compassionate course of action with regard to their fellow human beings. But it should be recognized that there are those Americans that are quite sincere in their effort to do right at every turn, not only for themselves and their country, but also for the world community and the masses who are in desperate need. Those people make every attempt to become conscious of the ways in which the things over which they have control can be affected so as to have a positive impact to all concerned.

Certainly, may corrupt, incompassionate powermongers anywhere reap the fruits of their actions, but it would seem that lumping everyone into categories such the above 2 comments appear to do, simply because people are not part of "our group" or "our side," is a large part of the cause of this conflict, and of conflict in general. Perhaps the true intention of those who commented is not to contribute to that, but such words and actions, and more than being just rhetoric, have a palpable effect in the world...and the effect is the same as that of the actions of those they hope to see defeated.

RE: The upside of war... I'm not the poster but you have a fair point, except look at films like Black Hawk Down. Why at the end credits does it say "Over 2000 Somalis were killed, and 19 Americans lost their lives".

Why in 1996 did Madeline Albright say that the death of 50,000 Iraqi children through sanctions was an "acceptable loss".

Why do you go around shouting "I'm an American citizen" like it's meant to mean something special. It may well mean something special to an American, but that does not afford you special treatment outside the US no matter how many people you kill.

You Americans start this rhetoric by thinking that your live is worth more than anyone elses.

RE: The upside of war I agree with one point a previous post to this thread by Mr. Jim Harper. The Anti-American sentiment is sickening, but perhaps not for the same reason. It is sickening that such a hateful comment can come from the mind of any person because whatever your political views on the US may be, it is unnecessary, vile and inhumane to say that it is good to eliminate a whole group of people. To say that war has at least one upside is to ignore all the violence perpetrated by and unto individuals that for the most part have nothing directly to do with the conflict. It ignores the fact that war rarely solves anything. It is forgetting the fact that violence only begets more violence.

I could say something mean but I won't War is a loser for all involved. I know because I have had to face that fact head on. It sickens me to this day the fact that I shot a man; it is a guilt that I live with every day.
Again, I am glad to be an American because we are the ones who define the cutting standards of warfare, there are several examples (M1A1 Abrahms tank, Polaris subs, and the best trained air force on earth). It kinda funny that so many of our Latin friends wanted to know what we know, we opened a school just for them at Ft. Benning. And you know what's even cooler, we got a fat wallet to research, develop and deploy these new weapons while selling our has-beens to everone else ( this is a left handed jab at my remark in the Colombian fingerprinting thread).
