I´m writing this because when I was trying to find information about jobs in cali, I couldn´t find any concrete advice and this is what I needed to know. If you are thinking about working in Cali keep in mind the following.
1. If you dont come right before the academic semester starts, get ready to beat the pavements looking for work because this is not Thailand. Jobs here are not abundant, unemployment is high so the competition for a good job is fierce.
2. Salary here is lower than I ever imagined and although cost of living is cheap, you can forget about making enough to save some money to bring back to a developed nation.
I dont want to be negative because I´m having a good time here but I dont think there are enough current postings about the job situation here. I´ve been looking for two weeks straight with no luck and I´m pretty much at the end of my wits. If this is not the case, please respond with more encouraging comments but honestly, if you´re looking for english jobs, I dont think Cali is the place to go.

litost says on Feb 14, 2006, 17:59: Sorry about your luck... but I don't think the posters on this site have ever led to believe it's easy to get a job in Colombia. Certainly not in just two weeks, and most definitely not enough to save and take home to the 'developed' world. Besides, popping into a new city as a foreigner and expecting to get employed off the bat is way optomistic from any perspective... to pull it off you need planning, patience, and luck.

Coqueton says on Feb 14, 2006, 21:25: And do you have any qualifications other than speaking English as your first language? I've found that many Colombians don't speak English and few have a need to so i'm not surprised that there is low demand as well.

Now all day every day she has to speak English and it's giving her a headache. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
