The Transformation of Medellin (Video)

Support Colombian exports, shop for apparel at Target, also buy flowers for that someone special in your life.

I hope the peso falls against the dollar, helps keep Colombians employed and off the streets.

FTA to be approved by US after elections, great for America and Colombia.

Check out this great video.

i can remember some of those haunts around bello back around 89-90...damn right they've changed.

the only persons you'ld see back then in the streets were sicarios. now, a little hope begins to shine through the windowl.

now, about the trade deal. unless they make it a two way street for all american goods, property and services as well those of colombia coming here, fuck it. this situation with mexico is a one way street. just try taking all your belongings to mexico..car, furnishings, etc. not happening without taxes and grief. same for colombia.

when the colombians want to give what they want...go for it. until then, they can sit around like the folks in the film and lament.
'
as anyone on this site knows, i love colombia with all my heart. but i've been screwed so many times taking my property into colombia that i don't for one minute support a free and open border unless it's a free and open border going both directions. paying $50,000 for a $30,000 car is bullshit and doesn't help the average colombian a bit. it's just plain rip off. fi they want open trade borders they're gonna have to reciprocate. period

the last time we took our personal property down to colombia, it cost me $7,500.00 us this after i've exported more than $350,000.00 us worth of colombian goods. i've moved up and back 3 times...i'm still trying to figure out what part of "fuck you" i don't understand.

MT,
With all do respect my friend, and you are..lets hope that the pesos gets stronger against the dollar, yes I agree, but lets also hope that the dollar stays strong. A weak dollar means that nobody will go to target and buy the flowers which means Target will not buy flowers, which means flowers will not be shipped, which means flowers will not be grown and so on and such..we need a good balance. Colombia needs to not rely so much on America and work on weaning themselves from the addictive teat that has been placed there.

I hope the dollar goes up again. See how it helps the average Colombian? By the way my aunt bought me a variety of those socks from target...when I opened them and saw made in Colombia...I felt pride...

dwmte7,

I thought we would have heard some good news regarding the proposed bill, but so far nothing. http://www.scribd.com/doc/502990/InvestInColombia

Catfish,
I don't think we will see a strong dollar for some time, but we could see the peso drop against the dollar as it was moving before the hostage rescue last week.

Medellin Traveler says on Jul 12, 2008, 12:55:

todavia no.....

The industrious Paisas are independent and very optimistic about the future.......
-------------

plato....gotta tell ya friend...i like to get kissed if i'm gonna get fucked. these free trade deals need so damn much scrutiny. the mexican one hasn't been straightened out and now this one. will i'm livin proof that doing this only for the "poor" paisas, is bull shit. i spent a fortune in colombia and exported all of that work and what did i get...grief.

i hope--and this is for everyone of you u.s. expats there in colombia. write your senator and demand conditions before we just play mr niceguy all over again. i have no problem with helping all these folks, but i don't like the idea of getting screwed in the bargain. and if you're livin down there and you want to bring your stuff down.....ask yourselves, why should you pay when they don't have to. ask your self real seriously. it's cost me about $20,000.00 so far and i've had it. i love that place, but i'm no colombians piece of ass.
