The Slowest Airport In The World - miami

Is it me or is miami the slowest airport in the world ,for one of the biggest airports in the world, they are hopeless, you wait in line to get to a customs counter, they have 29 counters, minus the counters for their own people, and yet the quickest I have gotten to a counter is one hour.
Than when you get to a counter ,they have no people skills and treat you like dirt, than after you pass the counters, you have the usual bag inspection, again you have deal with these stupid questions from these stupid people, who have a low mentality
To prove how dumb these guys are,a few weeks ago after coming back from Colombia, this guy had checked all my bags, and also had checked my passport,so he knows I am australian citizen, than he see's I have a cap in my bag that says US marines,I bought this for a friend,so than this guy says are you a US marine.
That just blew me away,so I said to him, were you born with blonde hair,as he was a black guy,I think a blonde would have more brains than anyone who works in miami airport

To me, Miami manages to combine both the worst of the United States and Latin America in one place. I hate the airport, I hate the city. I don't like anything about it. Of course many people feel the same way about Texas but it's always a relief to get back home.

Houston is a much better run airport and the US Customs & Immigration staff there are professional, thorough and low key-everything MIA ain't.

I've had similarly bad experiences at Miami Int. The rudest employees in the world, and thank God I speak Spanish because most of them don't speak English.

Airport True. I can not stand going to Miami. It is a huge bus terminal. It is so gross. Then if it rains a little or lightening they shut down the airport. But worst of all they leave the luggage in the rain. That happened to me. My luggage got soaked through and ruined my clothes. Plus I had to wait 1 hour in pagage pick up.
I try to go to Atlanta or Dallas or New York, New Jersey.

Viva Miami!!! Hey, sure the airport sucks, but don't knock the city! I love Miami because it's ambience is the closest to Colombia of any place in the USA (perhaps Jackson Heights in Queens NY comes close, but Miami is much closer to Colombia geographically). Miami for me actually combines the best of both worlds because the atmosphere is very latin (60% of the city is hispanic) and you get paid in dollars! It doesn't get better than that.

I cannot believe that you would compare Miami to Colombia. Medellin rocks! Miami sucks! The whole problem with Miami is that it is all about money and nothing else. It is a vision of Latin America sold out to corporate America where all the values are distorted and fake. Give me a place like San Antonio (again 60% Hispanic) or the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where the Latino presence is strong but it is authentic and people value their land, their homes and their families.

Seattle...Miami Live in Seattle...I actually love Miami...It is so different than where I live. I have been there many times and I have always had a great time. I think the people are generally nice, just like every city, good apples and bad apples. My family lives in Key West and Marathon, and when I visit I always dissapear to Miami...The thing I love most is, I have never met a Cuban, Venezelan, Peruvian, Paraguaian, Chilian or Uruguian person in Seattle, and I have meet many in Miami...I love to bla bla bla with people about the countries I have never visited..I know, my spelling sucks!

a little more.. Again, I really like the Miami airport. Crazy I know..But I love to see all the people..In Seattle most of the people when leaving shake hands, small hugs to family, say goodbye......In Miami, I have seen women, men, children crying their hearts out when saying goodbye to family members...It is how I feel when leaving Barranquilla...Plus, they have Avianca! Which Seattle does not have!

Speaking of Airports, I thought it was really cool the first time in Medellin at the Cordova airport... The people waiting for the arrivals have their faces pressed up against the window, their eyes filled with excitement. Then, when you get outside, they are lined up, and when I was there, a whole family of 30+ people were jumping and singing (or chanting) in Spanish... my fiancee told me she thinks it was a family who had a family member coming to Colombia for the first time in a long while. I remember being nervous... I thought I would be in some spacious lobby, and be able to look around and find my finacee... next thing I know, I am outside, in a croud of excited Colombians and I am slowly walking through a baracaded pathway hoping beyond all hope that my fiancee made it to the airport on time (no offense, but Colombians are not the most punctual people... my fiancee would show up an hour late for things, and according to her, still on time :) Well, I couldn't see her in the croud, but I stuck out like a sore thumb, so she found me.

Its more romantic than the North American routine of driving in endless loops around the airport with a cell phone waiting for the arrival to say "OK, I just stepped out, I'm front of the American Airlines sign near the big red garbage can" and having some parking cop endlessly shuffle you along.

I have never been to the Miami airport... Try JFK in NY... now there is a confusing place with long customs lines.

I actually think MIA is a decent airport, at least it's big, clean and modern-looking... yeah lines are long and the workers aren't the nicest, but I just take that as part of travelling in the US post-9/11.

Now, as for the city of Miami... there's an awful place to have to live, believe me it's where I am now and dying to get out, I agree completely with utopiacowboy, it brings together the worst of several worlds. For a week of beaches and partying in SoBe it might be ok, but living here is almost torture for me, this city has no soul, it's full of materialistic and shallow individuals, the weather's unbearable and you can't get anywhere without a car.

And I don't think that just because of the fact that it's the closest point to Colombia and that there are hundreds of thousands of colombians here it means that it's anything like being in Colombia. BIG MISTAKE!!! I've felt closer to being in my country while in Eastern Europe... but that's just me. Probably for people from Colombia's northern coastline being is Miami is similair to their homeland.

Litost,

Then let's trade places, hahaha! Believe me, where I live (Palm Beach county) is really boring! It's doesn't help either that there are very few colombianas around here, and when I do meet one every once in a blue moon, they usually turn out to be snobs!
