I am going to travel to Medellin next week and will be traveling with an engagement ring. It is fiarly valuable and I was hoping to get some practical advice on the best way to carry it. I was going to wear it around my neck on a chain, but that is going to be a huge problem with the metal detectors. Has anybody done this before? Any advice?

The X-ray will show it for what it is. Security won't say anything about it if it doesn't look suspicious.

Lionheart says on Dec 21, 2004, 10:14: put it in your carry-on I have transported stuff like that several times, and only was asked to open the little box once, because the x-ray didn't fully show the ring-form. Same for a necklace. Once in the plane you can put it in your pocket to be safe. The short time it is in your carry-on for passing security I see no big risk of it getting stolen. Another safe place is a belly-belt.
