the most dangerous job in Cali

The other night, I went Bowling in the south of Cali and as I walked in, everything appeared to be like a good ol American bowling alley( an old one like you would see in Tenessee or Alabama) however, after I released my ball and knocked down all the pins( actually only about half of them), I was shocked to see people jumping down from where the pinsetter would be to reset the pins and the number of Colombians that were not waiting for them to set them all back before they launched the ball back down the lane. I thought wow!!! This has to be the most dangerous job in Cali( kind of like being in an old ship battle back in the 1700s between pirates and Spanish with cannon balls flying all over the place). This could also be a new job lead here in Cali for us Gringo's. This job will definately separate the men from the boys.

As a kid, I saw signs In bowling alleys that said "DON'T DOUBLE-BALL THE PIN BOY"

If the Colombian pin boy is a regular dude, I think you might hear him using a polite phrase like "Mira hijueputa, espera". If said pin boy happens to be a re-inserted paraco in a new line of work, look out.

I would think if those caleños thought the pin boy was in fact a gringo, they might empty the entire ball rack at said gringo pin boy.

Well said Miguel I think you are rite. If we gringo's were discovered in the bowling alleys working behind the pins, those balls would fly faster. Sounds like a challenge eh?

no excuse for this ugliness! This is just another of many examples of the ugliness Colombians express toward each other. It sucks. I've been here for 6 months now and it really grosses me out how I see people treat each other here. I also saw more of it in Panama while I was there for about 3 years. What gives with this behavior? How will Latin American countries ever become peaceful, calm....... when there is so much of a “Screw you behavior prevalent in these societies? I’m sick to my stomach of the thought that I have to raise my baby daughter here. These people are supposed to be God loving people! What is the Church teaching/training people here? The Priest that married me and my wife,( I found out later) has father 2 children. Wow, some promise to God! That pretty much answers my question. It’s not just up to the government to affect change. In my short time here, I reduced the violence and negative behavior in my house by at least 90%. I’m trying to have that same affect on my neighbors. This isn’t the beautiful Latin Country I thought it was when I was just a visitor. Such a waste of people and country.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT... I experienced the same thing in New York. It was back in the early 60s when I was a teen-ager, we had the choice of going to more modern bowling lanes, but we used to get a kick out of going to a particular bowling alley that had an ol' geezer put the bowling pins up. He was a man probably in his early 60s and thin as a toopick but he used to jump like a rabbit as soon as he heard the ball down the alley. And like you saw, we never gave him a chance to put all the pins up. The place used to be called the Sunnyside Lanes in Queens New York. I still talk to my friends every now and then and when we reminisce about the good ol' days in NY, this incident usually comes up.

Actually I get the opposite feeling about the people here in Cali Mr. Lowell. It is actually refreshing to me to see how friendly the people are here. I was expecting far worse when I first came here and instead, I found that I was innundated with friendliness and courtesy( except when driving because when you put a Colombian behind the wheel of a car, they automatically think that they are in the Indianapolis 500. My wife is even guilty of this.). I think that people are people( except for women in the states,,, they are just monsters) and wherever you are, you will find good and bad( and really bad if you find a woman from the USA). Yes, it is true that there is no respect in the bowling alleys here but neither is there respect on the Futbol field.
