The Mayor of Cali, Is He Getting the Boot ??

Anybody have any info on this guy. Just got off the phone with my Novia. She said things are going to be shut down in Cali, manana. Seems like the Mayor. Some guy by the name of Apolinar Salcedo, who happens to be blind, has been selling the Property taxes that Cali takes in, to another city. From what I heard the other city gets 80%, and Cali only gets 20%. People are getting restless in Cali. Like they need anymore problems. Anybody heard of this?

I met him at an outdoor BBQ type place where he likes to eat.. seemed like a nice guy, but money is money...we will have to see what developes....but politics are brutal to say the least.....just accusing someone, whether true or not, can be devastating....

Just my opinion...

El Tiempo I read in El Tiempo also. He has been given a temporary replacement. Seems like he has to go to Bogota to answer some wrong deeds. But you are right. Money N Politics.

The sad fact is that he won election... on an anti-corruption platform. The problem in Cali is that there are so many poor and displaced that the candidate who promises the most wins, regardless of whether he intends to enact those promises, but who can blame those poor people (poor voters) that are grasping at any thread of hope.

hey buongone my gf also just spent a week in Cali last week at a conference for the entire week, and she told me that they (people attending the conference, mostly female...and from out of town) were not leaving the hotel, due to security concerns. Although for her and I, Cali is the most convenient place to meet, but we are considering other, such as...

...BOGOTA!

Looks like He had a Very good EYE! Thats where to put the money he swindled from the people of Cali. His own pockets. Seems like to me. If you are not on the take from someone down in Colombia. Then you basically become a type of Serpico. Most everyone knows what kind of trouble he had.

Something in the wind Heard a rumor about Valle del Cauca (Cali Department).

Something far reaching might be happening with the primary school system and maybe the entire country and if it happens NO ONE will be poor but happy.

No sense in contributing to the rumor mill. Need to separate the truth from the fiction. ie: Maybe price increases weren't caused by Exito moving into a persons barrio.

Reminds me of an old story How DARE you show disrespect for an elected public official in Colombia

A man died and discovered he wasn’t at the Pearly Gates but the gates of Hell. His first thought was Damn, should have paid my child support on time.

Anyway, he was greeted by the Devil and given a personal tour. The devil said: Hell isn’t what most folks think, we’re very modern and there is even air conditioning in some parts but you must make a choice of where you want to stay for eternity.

The first rooms were filled with people shouting and cursing while engaging in self flagellation, rooms with putrid smelling inhabitants with open sores and many other Hellish nightmares.

Then he came upon an air conditioned room full of people standing around the bar drinking, smoking and they appeared to be having a good time except for the fact they were standing waist deep in shit. This being Hell, time was getting hellishly short so he decided this was as good as it gets.

He was in the room for about 10 minutes when a voice was clearly heard saying “Break time over, everyone on their knees”.

Rubi, your parody might have been apt... if Cali's soon to be ex-mayor's approval ratings weren't a miserly 13% and Uribe's 75%, and yes, we aknowledge the the faults inherent in the polls, but that doesn't account for a 60 point discrapency.

Alot of people are always looking to go to Cali, so... Hopefully this thread will continue, and maybe A.B. and some others can/will give us some 'objective evidence' as things progress (and, improve?) in Cali.

Okay, let me go check that fair on Continental from Houston.
