THE MARCH / July 20th

Can someone tell me what time this march officially starts? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks!

Why did Ingrid Betancourt drag Juanes y Miguel Bosé to Paris?

A slap in the face! What a travesty for Colombia! They should have also invited the coward Camilo Villegas as well.

What a JOKE!

Sheesh I wish all colombian traitors were like Bentacourt. Bringing colombian artists to play in Paris on behalf of kidnapped people sounds so despicable and anti-colombian...(I wonder what these so called "patriotic colombians are doing, perhaps getting drunk on aguardiente and paying hooker to celebrate independence day because that sounds soooo patriotic)

La mort aux traîtres!

You can justify it anyway you want, but them being in Paris is just plain wrong on so many levels. What would you think if you were a Farc prisoner in the jungles of Colombia?

ahemmm, it was arguardiente and they were colombian hookers after all? How much more patriotic than that can you get? And with the way Camilo played over the weekend, he might as well have been in Paris.

Well, we made it back and BY GOD it was worth every minute. Old and young, rich and poor, white balloons by the tens of thousands, Colombian flag every where along with the constant chanting, "¡No mas FARC!" The T-shirt sellers made a fortune-we bought six.

I would be will to bet in Bogotá alone over two million. Mrs. Gator was reduced to tears, I also and they were not crocodile tears. Both of us a hoarse from shouting " No Mas Farc y Viva Colombia."
All in all, the best day we have had in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe,

I certainly hope not.

As I was marching in this white ocean of semmingly unending and unified people it occured to me that al qaeda in Iraq is being quickly defeated now that the will of the people was turned against them. Many defectors in al qaeda ranks and they do not appear to have much ability to influence anyone towards their goals as they have little to offer the average Iraqi. What does farc have to offer the average Columbian that lends to their lives and does not take away from it?

Those may be naive thoughts of a north american who got carried away with the sense that something very powerful was happening today, but I don't think I was alone. I think the President has won the war without a tremendous amount of bloodshed.

goin_south says on Jul 20, 2008, 19:11:

Why bother with the March?

I think, because it is a celebration of all the good things happening in and with the Country of Colombia.

Perhaps some of you other colombians can confirm this:
.............My fiancee and her two boys went to a Fourth of July Celebration here in the EEUU with me and some other friends. They were... a bit impressed. Nothing real special. But, they retorted: "In Colombia, for our independence day,... it is not a big celebration. It's as if no one really cares that much:"

Now, perhaps that is because they were from Pasto. Maybe they don't celebrate this event so much in Pasto. Or, maybe it is the country as a whole.

But, I bet even in Pasto, they had a grand celebration today.

Just as I wrote on MaFe's profile page today, I think the Future of Colombia Looks Brighter today than at any time during the last three years that I have been involved with the country and it's people.

IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE IN A BIG WAY!!!

(Are they still allowed to do fireworks??? Si? No?)

Where do we go from here?

Like several of the rescued hostages said, back in the jungle when they heard about the first march, it helped them a lot emotionally. MT - explain amigo. why do you think so? good debate material.

- at first it looked as though the march would not turn out as many, maybe because it was kinda early on sunday. however, it seemed to produce just as many people as last time, if not more. the area at parque explora was not really big enough to handle all the people and last time in alpujarra was better, atleast in medellin. great weather either way.

*maybe it is kinda like the sequel to a movie. really good, but not quite as unique as the first.

i could care less. i just want to see the FARC give up the hostages and take their million dollar payoff(s) to give up.

tejas,

I don't know, but for whatever reasons I did not feel the outpouring of support on PBH, Colombianblog, and the world media as with the first march, which occured during a workday, this was on Sunday, main reason they were more people marching this time around. I think this march may have been scheduled too soon after the first. I still believe Ingrid's place was in Colombia not in Paris, but that's just me.

I'm all marched out..........
