The islands of San Andres and Providencia!

Greetings, I just finished the wonderful book " The Making of Modern Colombia, A country in spite of itself" But I could not find anywhere in the book how the islands of San Andres and Providencia became part of Colombia. I am afraid the purpose of Daniel Ortega wanting to speak with the FARC, is in part a move to claim these beautiful islands for Nicuragua. With Uncle Hugo's support of course. Can anyone help me with this information?

It is kind of odd that San Andres ended up in Colombian hands when the islands are so close to Nicaragua, CR and Panama. More so than mainland Colombia.

Colombia maintains a military prescence there to keep anybody from trying anything stupid. There are rumors of oil out there under the seas so you see the interest the Nicas might have.

There are lots of smaller beuatiful islands such as Bolivar and Quitasueno, Cays really other than SAL and Providencia!

Looking at their geographical position, those islands should belong to Nicaragua. And maybe, they will.

Not according to Uribe and the International Court. They already went over the contract and the geographical data and it belongs to Colombia. Uribe did say that if Ortega can prove it belongs to Nicaragua he'll give in, but until then, it is Colombia's.

Hola!

Who left Spain first?

A long time ago, Colombia was much wealthier than Nicaragua, so they kept the land! Who really wanted a bunch of English people anyway on a few islands a long time ago anyway?

Forget it now! Colombia sent people from the mainland to change the mix!

Some sort of military or naval base on Cayo Bolivar. Yes, specualtion about oil out there. Didn't see any myself but some locals mentioned it?

The Nica's have the Corn Islands just not too far from SAI and Providencia and if they want a tourist destination than ORTEGA and his socialist buddies should develop that and forget about SAI.

My opinion.

Oil would be a good reason to want SAI and the local rights to the sea to get any oil. If any?

I didn't see any myself. LOL

A good Google maps search and you see lots of little cays and islands. They look so lovely.

The Corn islands, although primitive, look great!

If I lived on SAI, the last country I would want taking over from Central America would be Nicaragua, Guatemala, or Honduras. Well, Honduras might not be too bad but Costa Rica or Panama would be my choice but I think the people of SAI are happy with what they have now?

Yes, it is for rent, but it is not in town, it is more for people that want to go diving, since it is not by the beach or down town, it is pass "La cueva de Mogar" on the way to the blow hole. in a secluded area. The cabin is 2 years old, and we keep making improvements. no A/C but fans everywhere.
.
I don't suggest it for par-tiers, unless you rent a car, there are buses close by, It is quiet and a drivers paradise!. For someone serious, you can send me a P/M.
