"The In" places to live in Bogota ?????

OK, Chapinero has been mentioned on other posts I just read.

So it must be the in place to live??? can you walk to Andino, or how far is the taxi ride?

In place, I mean a place where is hip, like every city in the US , has ahip part of town , close to spots popular?

Is Andino the only hip area? or if you were just 10 minutes away that would no problem. or is Santa Barbara? or Unicentro? or Salitre plaza area?

I do not care about strata, but Strata6 or Start 4 is where its at, then I'll go.
I just want an area that has good gyms, stores, not a real hassle to get to the night spots, etc....

Again... You'll find Bogota very interesting once you are there.
The Hip places( as you call them) vary... some are around andino (Bars , pubs and reataurants) and the chapinero alto/rosales area ( specially for restaurants). Tons of gyms all over. supermarkets.. shops and everything

Downtown Bogota has a lot of very new, funky, artsy places too.. and a lot of people go there for weekend parties... La Macarena is a very sought out neighborhood in the area, if you want to check it out. It's becoming like the artsy neighborhood... A sort of Bogotano montmartre... jejeje....

cabs in Bogota are super cheap, compared to anywhwere else in the first world..so you'll find it's easy to move from one place to another... And as you discover the city, you will find out thatre are tons of "hip" areas to hang out in. not only la zona rosa, zona t, parque dela 93 etc. which are the traditionally racognized ones.

Salitre Plaza Is a really nice neighborhood... but it's very far away from Andino and those areas you mention. It's also difficult to find public transportation... you will have to get a cab all the time.

Lucia, I have been to Bogota many times before , but am not familar with the housing situation.

Those high rise condo/apts along the mountain side sure look cool.
But may not be worth the price.

I saw a job for 2.5 mil peso a month, and it was a degreed job in computer systems, with 5 year experince. So 1.7mil for an apt???, I wonder what kind people live there????

I'm from bogota and the "in" places to live are near centro Comercial Andino,,, or in "multicentro" which is near the centoro comercial unicentro bu near andino actually you ahve the bodytech gym,,,you have the "T" zone which is actually near the "zona rosa" there are cool restaurants there...cafes,,, and places to dance, Rosales is the most high class neighborhood its near the mountains...
and only about i think 10 block (down) away from centor c. Andino, Salitre plaza is a good neighborhood but I consider it a NOT 'in" place to live...if ur looking for something in you might not wanna live there...

-Who the f... are my neighbours?
Greg, I’ve been thinking exactly the same as you. My rent is paid by an international company so that’s another thing, but my apt. is the smallest one in my condo and who the hell are those other people living there when it costs about the same as an average lawyers salary..???

Mr. Hollywood says on Aug 3, 2005, 14:44:

A couple ideas Greg, it's not entirely clear what you mean by "in" or "hip'. The Zona Rosa and Parque 93 are both hip places to go out but that doesn't mean the hip crowd lives there.

If you're young and single and worried about hipness I'd suggest Macarena, Candelaria and parts of Chapinero Alto.

Forget about Rosales, Chico, Parque 93 and those places. They're out of the price range you're looking for.

Mr. Hollywood says on Aug 3, 2005, 14:52:

Who your neighbors are Nora, I can tell you who your neighbors are. They're middle class Colombians who bought the apartment 10 years ago for a song. They're expats like you and me who can afford the steep rents. And they're rich Colombians who made a killing and have way more money that I'll ever even dream of.

Correct.

Hip or In , I mean a place where is nice quiet from traffic, yet there
are people 25-40 who are working in good jobs and do many activities in free time, Not a bunch of families with little kids screaming all day and night, or not a bunch of rich people flying to Cartagena ,or going to one of their fincas every weekend.

PS- I cannot go above $1.2mil a month.

Candelaria Apparently the Candelaria is amazing in the evening as long as the universities are in session. They have live cuentaria every night. I was down there during January when most schools are off so we didn't go. But let us know if you go and it's good :)

Mr. H That’s what I figured. It’s the ones “who made a killing” that worry me a bit, could that be read literally..?

Andino, Santa Barbara, Unicentro are expensive. As to you walking to Andino from Chapinero......?? Yea, but it is quite a long wallk. It is not something you will want to do on a regualar basis.

Chapinero is good for another reason. It is relatively central. It' not far from the centro, and not far from the other areas on the North side that you may want to visit

Chappy High is cool, you have the bodytech on 63 and 7th, and it's not far from 82 and 93. I reckon though, that around 82 it's more 'hip' (whatever that really means), but more expensive. So if money it's not an issue, I would suggest around Andino and Atlantis. I live in Chappy High (chapinero alto), and I love it, but I'm just a poor old student...

Salitre Plaza I am glad to hear that Salitre Plaza is a good neighborhood. I am moving ther August 16th for 6 months. My novia's is giving me his apartment there to stay in. I am sorry to hear that it is difficult to get public transportation in this area. I guess there are some nice gymes in this area too. Sorry for getting a little off topic. Also, I heard that there is a great Irish Pub in that neighborhood...not too hip though I would think lol.

Nora, I dont think that comment of "the ones who made a killing" can be taken literally...don't be scared, your neighbors are not suddenly going to become this crazy murderers on you... We'd have to ask Mr hollywood what he meant.

Mr. Hollywood says on Aug 4, 2005, 08:40:

That's funny Nora I didn't mean "killing" in that sense but it's Colombia, after all, and most people are very cagey about how they made their money. I'm sure many of them have good reasons for being that way.

I wouldn't recommend too far north. My GF just got through living on calle 151b near ciudad de cali. She loved the area (although it was pretty far from what you'd call 'hip') but hated constantly having to spend an hour and a half PLUS in transit to get home. If you live further east that far north, than at least you are near the transmilenio, but even still, that's an hour plus haul to get downtown or Candelaria from there.

ws244 My apartment is in Belmira, a family neighborhood by Carrera 7 and 130. On the west side of 7 as the mountain side is a little overpriced. 6 minutes to unicentro, and just north enough to stay out of the pollution part of Bogota ones see almost every morning until it starts raining, starting just around Hacienda Santa Barbara mall all the way to downtown.
