A Fin named Jaakko spent a couple of years studying Spanish before making a trip to Cali. He thought he was pretty fluent but getting into a cab at Alfonso Bonilla he saw a copy of El Caleño with the headlines: CHIRIPASO DE IGUARAN EN EL CAMPIN. Sh*t! he said in Finnish I haven´t learned a thing! So he went back to Finland and studied harder. Thinking now he should be able to talk to those caleños he returned. Again there was a copy of El Caleño in the taxi and the headlines ran: ENCANAN A PININA, TAYSON Y LA KIKA. No way! With all his Spanish skills why couldn´t he read the front page of a simple newspaper?! Back to Finland for another year of intensive Spanish study. The third trip to Cali would be a charm. Jaakko knew he was fully bilingual now and there wasn´t a phraze they could throw at him that would catch him up…then he saw the copy of El Caleño: EMBURUNGANDADO BOLEA CHUMBIMBA A TOMBO.

Monpirri says on Feb 7, 2008, 18:49: Atrevido, your story is kind of funny but you and I know that the headlines that supposedly made it to "El Caleño" is NOT Spanish but rather slang! Annette Taddeo for US Congress 2008 |
