The Fine for Overstaying Six Months.

I want to shed some light on the fine situation with regards to overstaying your six months. I just paid a fine of 612,000 pesos and a seperate fine of 35,000 pesos for an overstay of five months and one week.. DAS says I can reenter as of January 1st 2007. Which seems a little weird to me . I mean in other words I can exit Colombia on December 31st 2006,then cross the border and enter Ecuador. Then the next day (Jan.1st 2007) I leave Ecuador and reenter Colombia ? Is this correct?
Any feedback on This?

Should`nt Matter. Let`s see if I understand you correctly, you entered Colombia lets say in January of 2006 and stayed six months ,then you overstayed another five and a half months and paid your fine, that would put you at the end of the calender year as it obviously has. If I understand your question ,you are leaving Colombia on Dec. 31st `06 and want to reenter the next day which would be Jan. 1st,`07. I really don`t see any problem, as a tourist you are allowed 180 days per CALENDER year, what ever happened the year before is irrelevant.Whether you leave Col. on Dec.23rd,24th,25th or the day before the new year (31st 2006), does`nt matter, the new calender year is the new calender year.At least that`s what the MRE says. I looked this up some time ago and thanks to Gator found their rules.
Now someone can correct me if I`m wrong but like I said it should`nt make a difference. As far as your fine goes you could`ve been hit up for more. I think DAS can charge up to 400,000 for every month you overstay!

Girlfriend doesn't want to go back to Colombia...HELP I live in Dallas and recently met a girl that is here from Colombia on a six month visa. Her six months are over at the end of Janurary. We have become very close and there is the possibility of marrage between us. She does not want to have to return to Colombia. She is a beautician and wants to open a salon here in Dallas. I need some advise and a better understanding of the Colombian rules or hurdles we will have to go thru to allow her to stay. I want to help but just don't know how.
