Hi Everyone,
I'm Russian. Do I "qualify" for gringo? :-)
I went to Colombia this year and no one referred to me that way. On the contrary, they thought I was from Latin America (that was until they tried to speak to me in Spanish. If there was a Russian-speaking country in Latin America I would have probably convinced them that I indeed was from the same continent.)

Leeroy says on Jul 23, 2007, 12:44: I think s(he) is asking if "gringo" means "general foreigner", or more specifically "person from the USA".

tot says on Jul 23, 2007, 12:46: That was my question. Someone from Argentina mentioned that I would be "gingo" but that's probably only because we met in the UK.

Leeroy says on Jul 23, 2007, 12:59: For what it's worth, no-one (to my face at least!) has ever referred to me as "gringo". I am either "ingles" or "extranjero". I am fairly sure, however, that when a Colombian refers to "los gringos" in Colombia as a general all-encompassing group they may be implicitly including other foreigners, such as other Europeans.

I say that his perception of a GRINGO would apply to about a quarter of the ones I have met. As as the rest of them how do you say........UGLY AMERICAN.......and they just keep on coming...... never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it....... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
