the christmas season is here and i want to remind those in medellin,

of the candle festival of lights in porvenir, on the ourskirts of rio negro, on the road to the airport.

in all my travels, i've never seen anything like it. it's akin to the candles-in-bags as some might be familiar with in sante fe, new mexico. with one exception.... scale. in por venir, there are literally millions of candles-in-bags, everywhere. the scale is overwhelming, and i assure you, that to witness it, will leave you with a memory you'll never forget. take the ride up the hill to rionegro and see for your selves. you'll never forget it.

on any normal day/week, por venir is no more than a middle class barrio, akin to those in all parts of colombia. however, come christmas, it becomes a world class spectacle worth the attention of one and all. hope you see it.

Too bad I never seen it, I have spend very few christmas in Medellin, even when I lived there. We went to Junachaco for a month,( by Buenaventura). But if I a m ever there I will make sure I go, it sounds beautiful!

lisa....it is beautiful....add to that, it's in por venir??? not to be critical of por venir--a married woman that i harbored a love for, for a good long time lives there--but it's such a plain place, or as gertrude stine put it when referring to oakland, california, ".....there aint no 'there' there."

however, come christmas/navidad, it really does sport an incredible, memorable show. it makes the show in sante fe new mexico look immature. sorry, sante fe. but it's true. hope some of you get to see it.

yeah....those colombians give good christmas. don't know about the rest of the country, but medallo and it's surrounds will give a christmas to remember....don't forget por venir.
