The Best of Colombia Experts wiki born!

Ian Worthington, the senior mod of Peter's Yahoo Group, ColombiaExperts, has started compiling important information about Colombia on a new wiki site. This far, he has completed two pages, one about Eldorado Airport and one about changing money . His site is well worth visiting and perhaps joining. Here's the link: http://isw.me.uk/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Colombia%3A+Bogota%3A+Ai...

"ColombiaExperts" is the name of the Yahoo group and I imagine the name of the wiki site, "The Best of ColombiaExperts" refers to the information collected by members on that site which has been active at least for 10 years now. The name is of course, tongue-in-cheek.
I think we should encourage Ian's effort of tapping into this collective wealth of knowledge about Colombia and I'm sure he appreciates any feedback that is given constructively.

GIB, FYI Daviveinda has allowed 500K ATM transactions for over a year. Maybe they are not in Bog. www.davivienda.com

GIB is correct on the Citi bank issue and Banco de Occidente also lets you withdraw 500K.

rhydewithdis says on Dec 24, 2007, 20:07:

One thing about having a $ based Citibank account in the US is that if you withdraw money in Colombia at a Citibank ATM (and only a Citibank ATM) you avoid two fees: 1) Foreign exchange fee which is 3% and 2) any surcharges you might incur for using an out-of-network ATM.

Don't know how wiki works. Isn't it a free for all with questionable veracity? Even so, can any one of us go into the site and correct or add to the information?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Dec 25, 2007, 06:31:

"The Yahoo Colombia Experts Group, and the Poor But Happy forum have a lot of good information on them, but no real good way to find it. Hopefully this wiki will fill that gap. Just register and add your wisdom here."

Davivienda is mentioned as giving 500k. I'll add B de O, thanks.

I think you're wrong about citibank, as per rhydewithdis: I opened a USD a/c in the UK with them last year, so I can i) draw more per tx, ii) not have to pay a tx fees. Works well for me.

If the norm in bogota has now gone up to 400k, could someone confirm and I'll correct it: it was 300k last time I did the rounds.

That's correct as far as using the ATM, but your account in itself is not valid in Colombia's Citi Bank.

Gator says on Dec 26, 2007, 20:49:

The key to Citibank is opening a Gold Account through New York City. Big $$$$ on deposit but lots of perks.
