the beach in medellin.....

in an earlier post about the 'best city in colombia' or something like that, as in most posts, it strayed wide of it's theme until finally coming to rest upon the idea of a beach in medellin (now that's damn near as dreamy as pretty ladies in buenaventura) but anyway, isn't that one hell of an idea.

true, a geographic impossibility, but do we have alternatives. i thought briefly of rivers where one might wet themselves thoroughly and enjoy the water...and of course, rio medellin was definitely out, as shit is cleaner than that. then? where?

well, i mused another moment and thought of barbosa...or north of barbosa, that is. where they pan for gold. stlll not as clean as one would like. especially if you'ld like to strip down with your squeeze and really enjoy. so, for myself, i'm still a bit emptyhanded. for, as you know, colombians are horrible about keeping their rural watershed clean. piss in it, shit in it, slaughter the cows in it, through the trash in it, are the general rules.

maybe some of you others have some ideas. the confama themeparks just don't do it. neither the one above bello nor tutucan by san antonio in llano grande.

let's here some real nice get wet ideas around medallo

Hummm... If Lisa is right, how can that be Rio Medellin (which is supposed to be start in Caldas)?

dwmte7 says on Oct 9, 2007, 06:24:

as i said, i've been way above caldas to amaga, primavera, et al and the water was still about as nasty as it could get. i don't know if rio medellin has it's origin in el penol but that may well be true. we went up to el penol a completely different way so i'd be lost identifying it's source. the river coming out of the lake didn't impress me as being 'clear blue waters'.

the nicest clear water streams i've seen was on the old road to sante fe de a. when you drove seemingly forever through the mountains. it was up in those mtns that i had my first and last drink from a fresh water stream up the side of a mtn. couldn't give you an exact locale, just up in those mtns.

They should make a man made beach lake near Medellin.

Lisa Zee says on Oct 12, 2007, 19:25:

El penol is close to Rionegro, Marinilla, and right next to Guatape.
I spend a lot of time there everytime I go. 2 of my brothers have a "Finca "there, and they have all kids of water toys, like a catamaran, wind surf, speed boats, sail boats, conoe, etc.
You should take Nadia there next time you go to Medellin. Or she shoudl take you.

According to Google Earth, El penol is in southern Colombia. However, maybe I spelled it wrong?

This is where rio negro is located (two words BTW).

Google earth has updated many populated areas in the last several weeks. I know that Los Gaviotas has been updated recently but just a sliver,, don't want to give the bad guys a spotting map now do we? Anyway, using the scale and estimating the tree density a relatively accurate tree count can be made.

Not that I did that.

El Penol is not THAT close to Rionegro. 40 minutes away by car, more or less.
Actually, the real, original El Penol is... underwater!
The rock is nearer to Guatapè. A fool tried to write the name Guatapè on the rock itself, some years ago. You can still see the mess that he did...

poco -- I think the place is also known as El Peñon.

When you bus there from Medellin, you have to be specific about if you want

"El Peñon" (village before the rock, sp?),
"La Piedra" (the rock itself)
"Guatapé" (the village after)

que nota!

Lisa Zee says on Oct 16, 2007, 07:01:

Sorry poco, but it is one word only, RIONEGRO, and you pronounce only one word.
I know it should be rio negro but it is not.

Because there are lots of other Rio Negros (Argentina, soccer club, etc.). I get about the same, searching for medellin and rionegro/rio negro.
