The Adventures of a Cockney Colombian

This is a number of very short videos that I caught with my digital camera in Colombia last year. I'm going again this August and I'd like to take much more of the scenary and of the house. In the meantime here's a little flavour of (my) Colombia.

********

Making Arepas

I love arepas for breakfast with some meat that was left over from dinner the night before, and some caldo and embuelto and if I'm still hungry after that then a bowl of choco pics!

I love Colombian food. I don't eat in London, but in Colombia I always put weight.

Dancing Ironically (Honest Guv!)

***

Bank Holidays The World Over aka Tropical Storm

It was cousins First Holy Communion and it was a bright and sunny morning, a beautiful day in fact. And then in the middle of the afternoon, with no prior build up the sky darkened in a matter of minutes and one hell of a storm broke lose

***

A Colombian House Party

A scene I imagine familiar to anybody who has been to a Colombian party. Food, dance, drink, more food and more dance

***

A Farm House in Villeta

Mi Tia's farm, out in the middle of the sugarcane fields. You can see the floor littered with the husks after the cane has been refined into panela. The whole air is sweet and heavy.

***

Veranda Serenade

My cousin and his friends have formed their own band and regular play across the region. He has also set up his own adventure sports business, backed by the Mayor of the village, eager to revitalise and encourage tourism to the area

***

Outing Mylon

After a picnic down by the river, sitting on the abandoned rail tracks, waiting for our ride (Nothing more sophisticated than a motor strapped to a trolley it seems!). Oh and I out my cousins gay dog.

***

The Bitter Pill

I had constant hiccups for three days running, to the point where it had ceased being an annoyance and was really starting to hurt my chest and throat. I finally gave in to mi Mami's sage advise and her belief that vinegar will cure anything.

Museo D'Oro, Bogota

Just like the title says.

Great videos, dude! Excellent glimpses into normal daily life. And much better than Shakira's music videos.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

love these clips and have forwarded them to my kids in hopes they see that another English-speaking young person has survived a trip to cousins, tios and tias in Colombia,

cheers,

ACE! They are absolutely ace! Where they all taped in Villeta? (Apart from the obvious one that wasn't.)
Did the vinegar work? I must admit I'd never heard that one before! :D

Thanks for the feeback.

Lauthra, only the farmhouse one was in Villeta, all the others were from another village.

And yes, the vinegar works, disgusting but highly recommended!
