The 2007 Index of Economic Freedom

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070116/bs_nm/global_economy_survey_dc_1

The 2007 Index of Economic Freedom measures and ranks 161 countries across 10 specific freedoms, things like tax rates and property rights. Keep in mind that on eof the authors is the Heritage foundation which is biased to represent conservative right wing ideolgy, but the Wall street journal. I think this incorrectly labeled "Economic Freedom" because economics is a social science and these "freedoms" seem to be realated to business only. I singled out the rankings of Latin American nations and posted them below. Chile of course
is #1. One observation though is that Argentina ranks pretty high with less economic freedom than Colombia, Brazil, and Peru but I would take Argentina's Economy over Colombia's any day. And probably so will most colombians.

http://www.heritage.org/research/features/index/countries.cfm

Countries with a score of 50 or less are considered "repressed" economies. Latin American rankings with the higher number having less economic freedom

 Chile 11
 El Salvador 29
 Uruguay 33
 Mexico 49
 Costa Rica 51
 Nicaragua 61
 Peru 63
 Guatemala 68
 Brazil 70
 Colombia 73
 Honduras 76
 Argentina 95
 Paraguay 99
 Dominican Republic 100
 Ecuador 108
 Bolivia 112
 Venezuela 144
 Cuba 156

Well... "I would take Argentina's Economy over Colombia's any day. And probably so will most colombians."

Most of the time, yes. But certainly not when Argentina's recent crisis came along.

Then again, I suspect that most Colombians probably would also take Colombia's over Guatemala's or Nicaragua's too.

So having more or less of something as debatable as "economic freedom", in itself, doesn't necessarily mean much.

Needless to say, "economic freedom" is not identical to economic prosperity or even economic health.

Many times I feel the same way Tinto.

"Needless to say, "economic freedom" is not identical to economic prosperity or even economic health." Well said.
