Thank you, my wife just got her Visa from Bogota, what should I do after she is here.

I want to thank everyone here for helping me these long 8 months. I did it all without a lawyer. This site was a life saver. My wife just got her visa in Bogota.

One last question, (I hope) ,her visa is good for 2 years, in that time we need to start the paper work I think for her permanent visa. Will they send us the papers, or do I need to start the process myself.
If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.
Thanks again,

Keep a good eye on her. Hire secret bodyguards when she is heading to get her residency ;).

Poor but Preppy ______Colombia: the only risk is wanting to lay.

No Problems 1. She received a "conditional residency(green card)which will expire in two years.

2 About three months before that expires she will have to reapply of permanent residency.(she(you) will do the paperwork-there is another interview)

3. At the end of three years total time she will be able to apply for citizenship.(the wait is three years total plus you must allow for the bureaucracy)

No real problems as long a you file required paperwork in a timely manner. Good luck.

Hi
We applied for a k3 visa Hi
We applied for a k3 visa and yes in DS-Form 230 Part One
question#23 we wrote down all schools attended.

The interview process was actually in December for our first interview. We did not have one form signed by my dad because before I did not make enough money, so my wife needed to return last week with the signed paper. Her interview was only a few minutes and everything went great. While she was there, she noticed some people getting turned away because they did not have phone recorded or other documents. So I think it might be common to be turned away sometimes, maybe to prove you are serious. Not sure, but we are set to go, and we are happy. Good luck all. Just make sure you keep copies of everything, fill in everything that is needed, and the 6 to 7 months will go by fast.

If she has a K-3 you are going to have to adjust her status to permanent resident. I would file for AOS now because the USCIS is going to jack the filing fees sky high in a few months.

UC-I Think... she is in the USA and has conditional residency: "One last question, (I hope) ,her visa is good for 2 years, in that time we need to start the paper work I think for her permanent visa." If so she/you can do nothing until that status is converted to permanent resident then after another year to apply for citizenship. Of course I may have not interpreted his post incorrectly.

I also agree with UC if she is eligible file now to avoid the higher fees.

You don't need to file for AOS, Mario. Your wife will have permanent resident status. Spouses who hold non-immigrant visas, like the K-1 or K-3, have to AOS to become permanent residents.

UC Is Correct, .... as soon as she is admitted at the point of entry she becomes a "conditional permanent resident" if you have been married for less than two years when she entered the United States on an immigrant visa, the permanent resident status is considered “conditional.

BUT, You and your wife must apply together to the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to remove the “condition” status within ninety days BEFORE the two year anniversary of your wife’s entry into the United States on her immigrant visa. You can find the two-year anniversary date of entry by checking the date of expiration on the conditional alien registration card (green card). The card will be extended for another year then she can apply to become a US Citizen.

lot more work for the AOS Hi all, thanks again. I applied at first for the k3 visa and 1-130 and 1-129. To tell you the truth, I filled out all the papers for my wife in Colombia, payed my fees and the K3 visa for my wife just got accepted 3 weeks ago. Wife is coming in 4 weeks
I will start the process of the AOS, and just noticing that I filled out all these papers like g-325a and support forms and it looks like I will have to re-file this again and pay the fees again. Is this true? I went to Visa Journey looking for better answers, or a phone number to call. But it gives you step by step process. So am I correct, file again the G-325, financial support forms, and the same checks for fees. A person can loose a lot of hair and money.

After she gets here you have to file an I-485 along with the G-325 and an I-864. She should not need new medicals - the K3 meds are still good. File soon because the USCIS is raising the filing fees dramatically.

She will also... ... have to apply for an I-765 (EAD - Employment Authorization) if she wants to work in the US since her I-94 is only valid for 90 days. Once the 90 days are up, she is not authorized to work in the US until she gets her green card.
