Here we go Again I hope the Peso goes to 800-1 My gringo ass is still there like I said in many threads don't go for the exchange or prices..I love Medellin and won't stop going. I have good friends and a good GF right now going on 7 months cool girl..When the dollar took a dump against the Euro did that stop me driving the Coastline of France or Italy or Partying my ass off in Paris or Ibiza or Amsterdam or London with my cousins and friends..NOOOOOOO Love it..Will be going back soon..and I don't have a shitload of cash and have no credit..Even if the Peso goes to 800 will not be as expensive as Miami Beach..
Next weekend there having a block party for my ass in San Javiar...for my birthday...Can't Wait..Just bringing my four bottles of Patron Clear yes my ass drinks good Mexican Tequila along with my Colombiano Friends and GF who love the shit..Oh forgot and Cold Bravas for the Chicos and Micheladas(AguilaLight) for the Chicas..and a good ass Barbacue and won't be surprised the Weed gets passed around..So there ....
No exchange is stopping me..Even if it goes lower..There is no way you can spend more..than Miami Beach.. now that scene you better have bucks.. Dropping a couple bills on a cheap bottle..and paying 1500-2000 a month on an apartment that is decent..but I do say Miami Beach has some amazing Chicas and no how to party..had my share with those gold diggers but just teach them how to burp and fart and they are ready for the fokin panthdave party...

Peace Out for this White Ass Gringo......

I'm a Yank living in Spain, and I don't see that many "gringos," as I tend to avoid the areas they frequent, but when I do happen to run into a "paisano," I try to be friendly, unless, of course, it happens to be one of those ignorant, racist, inbred "hijos de puta" that support Bush and his wars of aggression.

Those people are sick! While they swear up and down that they're "born-again" Christians, they love war and get a kick out of all the death and destruction the Chimp is sowing in Iraq, the "shock and awe" demonstrations, etc. I've noticed that it's usually people of this ideology/religion that turn out to be paedophiles. They give us all a bad name.

A word to the wise: if you are living abroad and meet any Republicans, give them a wide berth. If you are in a position of authority (at a language school, etc.) do not hire them.

I happen to be an American, but I have nothing against the French. They were wise to keep out of the Iraq debacle. Are we supposed to hate them for being critical of Bush's wreckless foreign policy? We Americans should be more like they are, methinks. They live in a democracy (in which they participate much more than we do, by the way, voting at a much higher rate and keeping informed on the issues) and have a right to express their beliefs. N'est-ce pas?

kalder says on Jun 5, 2007, 05:12:

D'accord... The French are basically a very nice bunch. However, their political class is legendary for its duplicity and cynicism. They're anti-American/Anglo-Saxon on 'principle'. If Bush were organising an orphans' trip to the zoo (with cream cakes thrown in), they'd find something to object about it.

You know the world is coming to an end, When the French accuse the Americans of arrogance. (If anyone knows who said this first, let me know).

Bazucojoe, Man T is a Man of Letters, you'll have to excuse the Brits on this site: we are a cultured bunch. Godot is the character who never arrives in Samuel Beckett's play "Waiting for Godot", in which two tramps mumble on for hour after our about the meaningless of their lives, ill-fitting boots and prostrate trouble, and who can't move on because they are waiting for Mr Godot.

A fine example both of existentialism and absurdism (funnily enough, so is PBH) after watching this play, I wanted to staple planks of wood to my own head in frustration and boredom.

This no doubt was the playwrights intention, and a mark of his undoubted genius.

Rikito I don't think you know anything of Islam (or, indeed, of English). Mecca is a place of pilgrimage for Muslims, a city in Arabia that existed long before Islam, or Muslims. You may as well accuse me of being a real angel because I have "Angel" in my web handle, than imply the poster who uses Mecca as his handle of being Osama Incarnate.

The world "mecca" is used euphemistically in the form of an ordinary noun many places to mean, in general, a place of gathering, attraction, or pilgrimage.

"Old Traford Stadium is a mecca for Manchester United supporters from around the world".

or even

"Colombia is a mecca for sex-tourists".

Murder of children? A million Iraqi kids dies because of US sanctions in the 1990s. Make of that what you will. Before you pluck the speck out of someone else's eye, perhaps see first to the tropical rainforest in your own.

But the sancions I think you are refering to were UN sanctions. The children that died and your number is in question, in other words it is propoganda. But I suppose Sadam had nothing to do with those children that did starve starving. He diverted funds from the food program which the UN provided for to other resources. So yep let's just blame the US for everything and poor little Sadam for nothing. It is scary to me that people that think like you exist in this world.

Cayita I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for 5 years. Mecca is a holy site for Muslims only. Anyone not a Muslim and found in Mecca can be imprisoned or executed. It is a required place for Muslims to make a pilgrimage. I find that anyone using a name like mecca is insulting and demeaning. It is written in the Holy Koran (peace be upon him) that it is the duty of all Muslims to convert infidels (that’s us) to Islam. If they do not convert they should be executed.

Nice group of folks huh? …and this clown worries about predators of children?

As much as I'm reluctant to condemn whole communities of people, I find it difficult NOT to equate Islam with murder.

Blowing up office workers by the hundreds in NYC.
Planting bombs on buses and trains in London and Madrid.
Genocide and slavery in the Sudan.
Cutting the throats of nuns in Algeria.
Cutting the heads off of schoolgirls in Indonesia.
Hacking Christians to death in Pakistan.
Killing women for reading a book in Afghanistan.
Burning people alive for staging beauty pageants in Nigeria.
Trying to butcher people for drawing a CARTOON!
And on, and on...

To ignore these atrocities or assign their responsibility to a 'handful' of radicals is stupid and wrongheaded. The militant vanguard of Islam (they may be self-appointed, but they hardly come in for much criticism from their 'ordinary' and 'peaceful' co-religionists)have made no secret of their ambition to kill, subjugate and enslave us and our families.

It's all very easy to bang on about how terrible the US is. And yes, it does make mistakes, many of them of criminal proportions. But it doesn't change the fact that the US is a civilised, successful democracy that generally tries to do the right thing. Next time anyone wants to equate the Yanks with the Taliban or Saddam, I suggest they ask themselves honestly where they'd rather live: Connecticut or Kabul? I know what I and about 99% of the world's population would answer...

The less gringos in Colombia the better? I've heard similar arguments about Colombia on the Lonely Planet discussion forums. It is, somehow, unspoilt owing to the relative lack of foreigners in the country.

I don't get this.

What negative influences do foreigners have in Colombia, exactly?

If we assume that the sex tourists are the vast minority (and while I don't have any figures to hand, I would guess they are) - what are the rest of the gringos doing here? Tourists, especially of the 5* variety, bring the country revenue - full stop.

The TEFL bunch are doing a service, as are international school teachers.

Entrepeneurs are, well, entrepeneurs - there's nothing wrong with that.

What's the problem with foreigners?

Carita and Cayita are not the same Cayita is a colombiana and I am Scottish. Don't miss-quote, if you can. Call me CA if you must. Cayita, you are quite right - it was the UN. I miss-typed.

But that stuff about convert or die is rubbish. The Quar'an doesn't say that, because it says (this being written about 1,500 years ago) that you can keep slaves if they are not muslims, and you can marry (if you are a man) non-muslims. Convert-or-die is not a mainstream muslim policy. I've read the Qua'ran, Rikito. Have you, or are you going to spout more ignorant jingoism for us?

You are right that non-muslims are not allowed to enter Mecca. In the same way that Non-Americans can't do certain jobs for the US government. But last time I looked, that wasn't illegal not to be an American. Last time I looked.
