PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post

Tengo 26 años y voy Rumbo a Colombia despues de 22 Años!!

I'm preparing a trip to Colombia in August for a week with a friend or alone but I want to see as much as I can. I want to go to the hotest beaches, sight seeing, my people and of course the food.

I would aprreciate all the info you can give me. I'm flying into Cartagena and not sure where to go from there. I'm really wanting to vistit San Andres, I love beautiful landscapes.

I also want to party like a rock star!! lol so if you know of some good hot spots i'm open.

Thanks,
~ Patricia

what time of the year? how long are you staying? what is your ambiance? how open are you to new experiences?

Mitch Alvarez is the resident "Party Animal" on PBH and should be around shortly to fill you in

If you love landscapes, you would probably prefer Providencia to San Andres. San Andres is pretty built up with your typical Caribbean resort hotels on the beaches. Providencia is a short flight from San Andres and is pretty and far less developed.

Parque Nacional Tayrona, which is about a day's travel from Cartagena is really beautiful too. Its not far from Santa Marta, which in turn is the jumping off point for excursions to Ciudad Perdita. Its a bit of a hike...not to bad in the dry season but slippery and strenuous in the wet season.

You should also consider flying to Armenia, and hike/horse around the Eje Cafetera and Valle de Cocora. Valle de Cocora is spectacular and the palmas de cera, which look like they could have been drawn by Dr. Seuss, lend an ethereal feel in that mist swathed valley.

The regulars here can tell you about the party scenes in the various urban Zonas Rosas. Cali used to be notorious for its clear dawn closing hours but now the local government has imposed a 2:00 a.m. closing time, strangely called Hora Zanahoria. Do what the locals do and go to Juanchito (across the Rio Cauca from Cali).

Mr Babillas Cartagena - great club. Babar was good - but may be closed now. Great setting for food Palos de Moguer outide the old city and Cafe del Mar incide the walled city. The new (ish) hard rock is a nice place as well.

Awsome club in Baranquila is called 7 if you make it that way. Awsome beaches are in p Tayrona, departing from Santa Marta. Lost city trek has some pretty speccy scenery.

If your in Santaq Marta during a busy period or on a weekend, Escolleras (spelling) in Rodadero is a wicked club.

Trisha, have you got family in Colombia, and where?

elmo, when are you coming down next? The difference is, you didn't announce it ahead of time. You just wrote us a msg on PBH one day from an internet cafe in the walled city of Cartagena. Oh and you're not a hot chick either. But I'll still drink with you. :o)

Nosotros hemos usado Aviatur muchas veces.
