Telmex or DirectTV in Bogota?

Telmex or DirectTV in Bogota?

Anyone got some insights on which of these is best for Internet and TV? I’ve heard DirectTV has more channels, but at the end of the day there’s no point having more channels if you’re not going to watch them!

I’ve also heard that the Telmex internet service can be a bit patchy?

Telefonica and DirectTV are similar, both uses an antenna and a deco. Telmex don't use it,
About channels of the 3 companies are almost similar.

In places from low strata people use telmex because with Telfonica and DirectTV you need a deco per TV or Room, In the case of a hotel, there must be a deco in every room or all the rooms will watch the same channel in the same volume.

But telmex you can use the same wire to any room and any TV, Another companies make you pay a fee for additional deco by month.

In some places all the neighborhood use telmex, I don’t know who pays, every one make a illegal connection to the main cable, this is in low strata neighborhoods.

I had Telmex and changed to Direct TV. The picture quality is much better, the PVR decoder is universal , so it replaces your tv remote control. Great using only one. The UNE modem is excellent. it is just a picture frame and we have had no hassles with service

I'm sensing a strong anti TelMex vibe here...

I'va had telmex for almost 6 years with no problem.
The internet connection is really good. I don´t really know what internet options will direct tv give you... If its ETB run away. ETB has a TERRIBLE costumer service

My English is bad because its not my native language. Whats your excuse?

We have DirecTV (switched from Telmex). We 'thought' it would be a good idea, but in the end I don't know if it really matters except that our internet is spotty late afternoon-evening time Every single day. Yes, it's ETB. It took 5 visits here before they could correctly hook up the phone lines as well. I use Magic Jack and I've been cut off or not been able to get through lately on countless occasions.

Travelfamily. I had a few problems with my first modem. I kept on complaining and they recently connected their latest hi tech modem, and I have had no more problems. Seems if you don`t really hassle them, they just don`t do anything about it.
I will load a picture of the new modem when I get home, It certainly solved all my problems

Not true. With Telmex digital you need a receiver for each TV. Analog Telmex doesn't require a digital converter and the quality like with any cable analog provider can vary. The quality with the converter is digital and is equal to that with Direct TV/Telefonica. Direct TV used the same technology as they do in the US - where as Telefonica uses the same as Dish Network. Telefonica has less programming than Direct TV/ Telmex and is less expensive.

Telmex wins hands down offering 8 megabits of internet connectivity. Latency back to the US is less than 80 ms using the Colombus networks fiber port in Cartagena.

Customer service with Telefonica is absolutely horrible.ETB offers the best customer service.

We use Telmex in my house. The Wifi modem has been working great. I spend a lot of time on the internet for my job. I also use magic jack. MJ can be pretty choppy, but for the price I love it.

I used Direct TV before with ETB internet and I like Telmex better now. I did not like to pay for the decos and the internet was not good. I have been trying to get money back from them since May and every time I go there, they tel me they will deposit the money into my account in 5 days and nothing yet. Very poor customer service with Direct TV, every time I go, I have to go over why they owe me money and they get upset because I insist on my point until about 1 hour later they get it and they finally agree with me. Which does not matter as I have not been reimbursed yet...

With Telmex, no problems at all...
