tell me now! :) how is florencia?

ok guys,

got a ?, stayed in santa marta for awhile. Now I'm back home in usa. However, my mexican buddy works with a guy from florencia, colombia. How many of you have heard of the city? How is it? Could someone give me a detailed description of the culture, food, women, weather, famous things to do..etc. Also, I heard it's dangerous down there as the FARC inhabit that area, is that true? Alright, thanks!

Never been there, it's not much of a city I think, more like a town. Hot, humid, dangerous.
Kat1 will know more she's a llanera.

Are towns dangerous? I don´t think all of them neither most of them, that is quite a generalization

Like many small cities in Southern Colombia, Florencia is relatively safe, but it is best not to wander out of the city too much. The biggest problems in the city is street crime. Florencia, like many other cities of the region has a large population of desplazados (internally displaced people). This is a major factor in the crime problem.

Still, you should be OK if you will be hanging out with locals that you know. There really isn't a lot to do as it is very much a big town. There are few festivals throughout the year including a folkloric festival and they have a San Pedro Festival in June as well.

I'll ask my wife tonight. She lived there for a few years as a child and may know more about the food and culture.

Desi i am not Llanera I am costeña :))

I have never been in florencia but i do know that there is guerrilla present in there remember Florencia is not that far from San Vicente del caguan, I have to ask my mother about the security she has lots of friends there,

but maybe the town itself is safe, you can get there from Bogota with Satena and Aires by bus the route is the same one that goes to Neiva, from Bogota is around 558km

Some info about florencia
temperature 28c

Florencia is smaller than Villavicencio and really to me it looks more like a town than a city i don't think there is much to do there after a week..
