You are within the allowable, US dollars, of $1.500 limit. On the airplane you will be given the Declaration of Baggage and Currency form to fill out. Since all you will have is accompanying baggage, that which the traveler(you) bring with him on entering the country, may contain yours personal effects and/or permitted articles, so home free

Yep, you are home free. If anybody asks - which they most likely won't, just say the TV is used, and you are bringing it for your own, personal use. But like Gator said, you are below the limits - even if it were new in box and intended for somebody else.

A question you should address about flights, specifically Colombia, before heading to the airport.

I believe some airlines have a Max. Weight of 100 pounds per checked bag. Others might be 70 pounds. A 40" Plasma or LCD TV in the box might exceed 70 pounds.

Depending on the class of your ticket, Anything over 50 pounds per bag has a charge, up to and including 70 pounds and the fee increases from 71 to 100.

Plus, there are size limitations. 62" standard with a maximum of 115 Max. Anything over 62" (LxWxH) might have a fee. A 40" packaged TV will probably exceed the 62" number.

I'd get the weight and dimensions AND then verify the airline will accept. Make sure a "box" is OK. Might require a duffle bag for some items, even if they are in a box.

PS: I've had the check-in AND ticket counter clerks BOTH tell me I couldn't check my luggage for either size, weight, number of bags and embargo dates.

Ha,, good thing I'd checked before hand,, plus,, you should have the cell phone number of someone at the company reservation center. Last time I had to make a cell phone call at the counter. Handed the phone to the ticket agent and she said,, Thats OK I've confirmed you can check the bags. PS: I’d check again a few days before departure.

Flying is getting quite complicated,, forget duty,, getting it on the plane might be the real problem.

This is the Continental Airline baggage link. All airlines MIGHT be about the same because of connecting flights. Not good to have a 100 pound bag with a connection to a 70 pound limit airline.

So, the cost of flying economy class continental to Colombia with two bags that weigh 70 pounds and one additional bag weighing 50 pounds is $150 USD.

Next time I have overweight, oversize, boxes, embargos, etc involved you can bet I'll have a printout made at the time of purchase outlining their restrictions.

I flew down ovr the holidays. Took two with me, and two as excess from Anc-Sfo. When I went to the Mexicana counter to board the flight going to Panama City. Mexicana said there was a blackout. Needless to say the two extra bags where full of X-mas goodies headed for Cali. The little Pr-ck working for Mexicana said tough Sh-T. It was not on my itinerary, and I was pissed. I had to put them in storage in SFO, until we could get ahold of my novia's friend in Lakeland, Fl. All of this was done from Panama City. It ended up costing me ovr 1K to get two wheeled duffle bags from Anc to Clo. Should of flown Alaska/Continental-Copa.My novia flew from Cali-Pty on Copa. Needless to say I had to listen to her bitch till we had them out of Florida headed for Cali. By all means check. And double check with the Airline you will be flying. If they don't take it. Fly one that will.
