Any recommendations/advice on a good TEFL school or course of intruction institution, beit online or brick & mortar, located in the US, that is preferred by schools in Colombia? Does it even matter where you receive your TEFL? What should I look for when researching schools that offer the TEFL cert?

I can't recommend any American institutions as I'm not American, but in the UK all the courses are pretty much the same, so people generally look for the cheapest one.

The Cambridge course is offered in the United States and since the Cambridge Levels Examinations are the only (that I know of) international measure of a student's ability, this is a good certificate to have. The other is the Trinity which is offered at various schools in Europe but as far as I know, is not offered in the USA, One word of advice. If you decide on the Cambridge (and are accepted - they are strict), be prepared to work your fanny off and be stressed for 4 weeks. This is the most common course although there is a school in San Francisco that offers a night course that lasts about 6 months. Of course, if you aren't interested in going that far there are a lot of courses, they just don't have international recognition and some of the better schools that teach for the Cambridge Level exams won't hire anyone that doesn't have one of the two listed above.
