Well I am back in Canada. The plan was to line up some work in Colombia as part of the "say no to winter program." The folks at the DAS in Bogota told me that a work permit could only be issued if you were a qualified teacher specializing in languages. What does this exactly mean? Is it a Bachelor of Education, or a BA with TESL, TEFL or CELTA. I was not able to get any straight answers in regards to what is exactly required for a work permit as a teacher. Furthermore, my efforts to contact the Consulate in Toronto were ignored. Does anybody know? Perhaps it all depends on who you are talking to. Any comments appreciated !

Lionheart says on Feb 10, 2005, 22:34: the requirements changed TESL, TEFL or CELTA used to be enough. But some deal with terrorists entering Colombia changed that. Do a search here for the details. Now you need to a graduated teacher (title depends on country where you got your degree), the TESL, TEFL or CELTA additions are not required.
