Teaching Jobs?

Hello all,

I'm currently exploring the local job market and am seeking a teaching job (EFL or related). I've scoured most of the schools already to find that there are no current openings, so I'm asking PBHers if you know of any current or upcoming positions at any schools? Please contact me if you know of anything. Thanks!

Remember that there are 2 schedules here One starts in Aug-Sept ( like the US) and the other starts in Mid January. There could be new openings for the Calendar A schools right about now. How is your Spanish? These schools are the Non-International schools and have many more positions and students. Also where are you looking?

Hi Bill,

I've looked at the likely schools (Colombo Americano, Coloumbus School, UdeA, EAFIT, and a few others). Yes I'm aware of the 2 schedules. I'm aiming for the January start. My Spanish is 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. Any leads you could tell me about?

I might mention also that I have another part-time job, so I'm looking for anything at this point and am not too picky about where I work. My main goal is to secure a work visa so I can live here in Med for a longer vs. shorter time frame. (By the way, do you know if it's possible to get a work visa if I am working locally less than full-time?)

I don't know about the Visa. I always had a conjugal one. So you are looking in Medo and I have no knowlege about that market. The low Spanish will work against you for jobs in that calendar. These are the Spanish Only type of institutions

If you are in Colombia and what to earn extra income feel free to contact me. I have been living here for about a year and receive monthly checks from a US based company. I teach on the side. It makes life alot easier earning dollars and spending pesos.

it is highly unlikely that you will find anyone willing to go through the process of sponsoring you for a visa if you only want to work part time. It's a pain-in-the-ass process, and most schools (with the obvious exceptions) are completely unfamiliar with it. You can find plenty of work on the side if that's what you want, but for the work visa you will almost without exception have to be full time.

you have a bachelors degree and a TEFL certification right? because otherwise it can be damn hard to find a place to sponsor you.

i worked at the columbus school and since they are US accredited (kids graduate with a valid US high school diploma) they can only hired teachers with both a diploma and certification in education. and they usually hire them at the job fairs taking place from dec-feb (ISS, TIE, Northern Iowa, Queens, etc). if you have that, and they do hire you here, you'll get the local, not import teacher salary which is significantly different.

Hi Shazam, yes I am aware of Columbus and it's dynamics...sounds like a great place to work. Yes I have full credentials for that sort of position and would love to learn more. I've been in contact with HR and have submitted my CV. Do me a favor? Please contact me privately and let's chat about this...kenziejones at live dot com
