TEACHING IN COLUMBIA

I am a chemist with an advanced degree and am curious about positions in Bogata or the larger cities with respect to teaching at a U or private high school (no habla espanol). I feel the best way to learn is to immerse one's self in a spanish speaking country.

You might want to.... immerse yourself in English too, while you're at it...unless you want to teach in South Carolina or Texas. LOL!!!

Take some Spanish classes before you come because
...teaching in English is the worst way ever to learn a foreign language, and you are not "immersed" in the culture as you would like to be. You are working all the time in your native tongue, so you dont get too many opportunities to speak Spanish, unless your Colombian experience is as comprehensive, as say, some of the gentlemen here.

My feeling is that you should come down here and look for a job, I do hear that recruitment from abroad is tricky.

Or you can try Spanish immersion course and check the place out. Uninorte runs something in Feb just before the BAQ carnival, but I think $700 is a bit much.

Greek, May want to try an Agency a Buddy of Mine was offered a Job with a Petro Exploration Agency a few years ago in Bogota. He declined on the Job Offer as he had a better one from the Yucatan in Mexico. BTW, don't worry about the spelling of Colombia, our own US State dept mispells Colombia and they haven't been disowned ;this mispelling is indeed a Small insignificant issue,,,,LOL

Colegio Nueva Grenada I'm an international teacher teaching math in Venezuela. I have been to and have friends that taught at Colegio Nueva Grenada in Bogota. Check out this website for more info. http://www.cng.edu/ International Schools is the way to go for best pay and benefits. You'll learn Spanish if you want to by classes and on the street. I've been here for just over 3 years and speak very well. Good luck

try a placement agency from the US, agencies place teachers in overseas schools. Look at www.internationalteachertalk.com for a start

Really """"Take some Spanish classes before you come because
...teaching in English is the worst way ever to learn a foreign language,"""""

the truth is you don't need to speak Spanish to teach English....where I work they don't allow teachers to speak English period.....if you use the natural method of teaching English you don't need the secondary language
