Teaching in Bogota

Hi, I´ve just arrived in Bogota again after a year and a half back in Europe. I lived here before for two years with my boyfriend who is Colombian and we decided we wanted to be together again. Anyway, I did the CELTA course before coming and am now in the process of looking for a full-time job. If anyone hears of anything please let me know. For those new to Bogota look out for the great theatre, dance and musical performances that there are in the city at very low cost, from $2,000 pesos to $20,000. There are a lot in the Candilaria area of the city. Enjoy! If anyone feels lonely too we could meet up to exchange info. Have fun Rachel x

some info Hi rachel,

I just started working in Pereira teaching english after looking for about 3 weeks. Ive posted several long travellogues on this site recently which might be of help to you but in a nutshell, I don´t think youll have a problem finding work with the celta and being a native speaker if thats what you are.

Jobs Hi Jon, How´s it going? I´m in Ecuador at the moment soliciting the working visa for Colombia. As usual everything took much longer than expected, waiting for all the necessary papers from the company that I´ll be working for. I´ve actually just ended up going back to the same company as I worked for before. Better the devil you know. I´ve heard a lot about Pereira, are you enjoying it? Where are you from? Keep your fingers crossed that they give me the visa and quickly, been here almost two months and my saving are dwindling. Take care, thanks for the mail, Rachel xxxxx P.S. Yes I am a native speaker, I´m from Scotland.

Working Visa Hi Jimmyto,
It was far from easy but I had to get a working visa. You have to do this in a country outside of Colombia in a Colombian Consulate. At this very moment I´m in Ecuador soliciting this visa again as the one from before expired. To apply for this visa you need a contract and a dozen other papers that your employer has to obtain from certain government organisations in Colombia. It´s normally a bit of a catch 22 as you can´´t get a job withoput a visa and the visa without a job. The best way is probably to try to do it form your home country. The only problem I have found is Colombian companies, Universities, schools etc require a degree and experience, the later I have. The CELTA qualification obviously helps a lot. Are you in Colombia?? If you want any more details let me know. Take xare, Rachel xxxxx
