Teaching FRENCH in Colombia

So far I have read a lot of articles about Teaching English in Colombia. What about teaching French in Colombia? Do you know of any schools that offer job positions as well? Have you worked as a French teacher/do you know anyone? I can teach in both languages, French & English - not to mention Spanish as well.

Thx.

Try the French Alliance. Also, Berlitz; but you can't really make good money only teaching French there. French + English is a good combo.

I've heard it all now. Teaching French? Geez, they have little or no interest in learning English, why would they want to learn French? Sometimes for fun, I put the French audio on the DVD with Spanish subtitles for my wife and ask my wife how much she can understand. Even though she can understand a fair amount of Italian and Portugese, with French it's just about 0. So much for the commonality of Latin languages, at least insofar as French and Spanish are concerned. I can understand about 98% of it even though my French is rusty.

Many young people in Colombia want to learn french, and are willing to pay for it. France, Belgium, Quebec and Switzerland offer many opportunities for relatively cheap university studies and scholarships. There are Alliance Fracaise in all big and intermediate cities, plus a few schools in french, and some more where it is optional. Most big universities should have french courses too.

Bonne chance!

Francaise Funny thing I saw/heard a lot more French in Ecuador.
On TV and I met a lot of Ecuadorans who had lived in Quebec or France and they have a TV channel in 100% French.
I did meet one Colombian woman in the airport in Cartagena-she and her French husband had just returned from Providencia and were returning to Cali where they lived.
She pretended not to understand either English or Spanish and every time I spoke in either language with her husband she would look to him for translation-a total phony.
That broad had it down pat-the vacuous Frenchwoman look.
Mismatched makeup smeared on, badly shaved legs and dirt for brains.
I mean she had a 'pipe burn' on her leg from a rental motorcycle.
The burn had gone septic-badly so-and was ugly red/swollen/weeping and all she did was sprinkle talcum powder on it-a complete idiot.

As you can see I'm no fan of the French and I admit it

well well well That is France, those are the French, and whoever hangs around with them for so long, it will stick to you!
I don’t know, I speak French very fluent, I studied for over a year every day for 4 or 5 hours, I lived in France, and yet, the only people who praise my French are the Swiss or my family here in Colombia, it seems like they are so proud of their own language, but what? If you go to France and speaks in English you are an asshole, if you don’t speak well they think you are retarded and speak back in English, if you are American you are bad, no matter what. knowing myself how much I love The United States, since I was treated soooo well and I Americans made me part of their society by giving me all aids as a regular American will have. Social security, national health, drivers license, pilots license, I was even invited to be a juror and I am not even American! I know I don’t qualify, but at least they thought on me, or a computer did. I was part of a society I was never left apart. And I will think on United States as my second home. is nuts, even I lived in France for months, I couldn’t even get my resident card, I meet Americans that even 6 or 7 months after living there wouldn’t be admitted or treated live everyone else cause they needed the so called carte de sejour (resident card) but the French bureaucracy is so bad and so slow I thought Colombia was more like American style, I learn Colombia is a beautiful place by living in France far away beautiful more than Europeans think, and quick for what the average Colombian think on the Colombian bureaucracy. What about food? Is a scam, French cuisine is the best I admit that, but French daily food? There are no places to eat Corrientazo in France; the land of exquisite palate prides itself in eating sandwich at noon? Do you know what is to eat sandwich or kebab for over a year? Or get yourself to a 40 euros boucherie and don’t forget to order wine cause if you order coke you are nuts. After all French restaurants are everywhere, most important is daily life. And In Colombia we have way too good daily life cuisine and so cheap you would want to move. And if I want to eat expensive we have it all as well. Yes kebab! Cause France host the biggest Arab community in the world, wonder why France didn’t agree in attacking Iraq? Cause they were kissing ass! In the city which I lived Lyon, it is said that the suburbs of Lyon are the second biggest Islamic terrorist spot in Europe after London and not to talk about Marseille whose Arab population is well above 17% who would want a war with irak with so many Arabs at home? Why do they need so many vacations for everything??? Think I should submit this to the French consulate comment box: “begin observing foreign holidays, Between French (and Colombian) holidays, grèves (strikes), 6 weeks of vacation, unlimited sick days, mental health leave and a litany of catholic, Islamic and Jewish days of importance; I think they’d probably average negative work days. One more holiday will tip the scale of our global economy. France’s gdp would accelerate its shrinking, forcing a withdrawal from the EU, reversing the illogical decision of the governing body to spend 2 weeks a year in Strasbourg, resulting in a decline in consumption of certain cheeses, white wines and sauerkraut. It. could be catastrophic… France is so slow for everything, you need like a billion papers to do anything, banks are so dam slow, I left France more than 4 months ago and I still can’t get my balance from my bank. Everyday I have to write e mails and send billion faxes, that the phone bill probably surpassed my balance by now, and what is up with the cleaning habits? Geezz, why is always so smelly on the bus or metro? Or dog poo poo on the street? Or why do they hand you the food or the bread by hand and receive money with same hand? I mean all of you who visit Colombia know well how picky Colombians are with: BATHING, SMELLS, AND ATTITUDE, we can’t stand an arrogant, or a smelly person or a dirty habit. So why the average nobody like me would would use his French for?
I have like a billion stories. And after that why someone would want to study French? To open a patisserie?
Buuu

Here is your answer I am sorry you have to deal with all this non sense. French is more common in Colombia that what you may think. For centuries many Colombians went to France to get a higher education There are several schools around the country that teach French. I mean all subjects are taught in French from Math to Philosophy. Try El Liceo Frances, Colegio Helvetia or El Colegio Refous in Bogota. French is also taught not as intensive in most colombian High schools. I know there are French Schools in other cities, but I grew in Bogota and those are the ones I know. You can also try La Alianza Colombo Francesa. Universities also offer French classes
Good luck

Just more proof of how people can have completely opposite experiences in similair situations. I studied a year in France (Paris), and it's one of the highlights of my life to date... sure, everything's not perfect, but why focus on the negatives instead of the many positives? It's like going back home after spending time in Colombia and complaining about the corruption, poverty, insecurity, etc. I met so many nice and interesting people, and these were parisians, that I can't help but come out and defend them when the stereotypical french-bashing begins. And SURPRISE SURPRISE, it's usually people from english speaking countries who criticize the most... heck, they just can't get over the fact that there's another advanced society which dares to live and look at the world in a different way.

I am 100% colombian and despite many differences, felt closer to home while in France than I ever did in the States... but maybe that's just me and my personal experience. I won't shove down everyone's throat my biased view as some others enjoy doing.

Just to clarify a point.

There is the story of the Colombian (have to keep on site script) rabbit and the snake, unfortunately they were both blind from birth.

It would appear that they bumped into each other one day and they both said, "perdoneme" the rest will be in Spanish so as not to confuse the unenlightened.

Having both explained their predicament they decided to run their bits over each other to define exactly what they were.

The snake had the first excursion and after wards said. "Long ears and a twitchy nose with soft fur all over, I think you are a little bunny wabbit (Snakes lisp)

Then it was the rabbits turn and when he had finished he said, "Fork tongue, No guts or balls and slime all over........you are F*&%^$£ French"

Nuff said.

Being of unsound mind and dubious disposition, I cannot be held legally liable for any indiscretions."¡El diablo me hizo hacerlo!" But don't worry, be happy.

The brain is like a parachute, it only functions correctly when it is open. Pax vobiscum.

?? Try El Liceo Frances, Colegio Helvetia or El Colegio Refous in Bogota. """yes you are $$$$$$$ big bucks""" French is also taught not as intensive in most Colombian High schools """yea right in MOST, SURE""" you got to be estrato 5 or 6 being Colombian I don’t know where you come with this.

It's like going back home after spending time in Colombia and complaining about the corruption, poverty, insecurity, etc.

France is full of corruption (specially) poverty and a lot of insecurity... I don’t have to go to Colombia to see it.

Want to hear real stories? In France or the ones I know in Colombia … here I go,
French problems with the treatment of dirty water in Bogotá River? The plant they installed and didn’t work?
How much did they rip us off?
Making Colombian cedulas that did not work how much we were ripped off or that they (Alcatel) wanted us to pay for software to be attached for life to them??
What about Générale des eaux and fanalca and transmilenio or ciudad limpia? Bogotá’s nightmare with the water bill.
Michelin when they bought icollantas?
http://www.uom.edu.mx/trabajadores/17solidar.htm
Or the French actor that robbed Colombian pre-Columbian art?
http://www.cromos.com.co/4450/actualidad1.htm

Or do we talk about alcatel that corrupted the Costa Rican ex-president?? o recently Jacques Chirac, or himself in campaign FRANCE IS FOR FRENCH ONLY... meaning Arabs out of France,
Or how about the ex mayor of Bogotá Jaime Castro that wasted 14 million dollars in radios for the police knowing that they didn’t work in Bogotá? And guess who sold them. The French! With who? The son of the ex-president François Mitterrand who was in jail for trafficking guns
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1111739.stm
Or Paribas PNB making big bucks out of our oil cause Ecopetrol didn’t know “Duuuu” the oil price was going up? Duuu
And the list just keeps going on and on....
I don’t get impressed with all that je t’aime bull^%$ and the cheese and cuisine, I felt them arrogant dirty and unpractical.
Without mentioning what I saw in Lyon, I have no idea about Paris. (Even though I went million times)
