You'll find a job no problem. Within one week you'll be working. My advice is to wait until you get out there before you agree to anything. People who sign contracts from the states or the U.K. generally get worse pay and conditions than those who find work once they reach South America. I have worked in Colombia and Chile and found work in both places within a week.

PS I have seen is better Grammar plus put a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence,I teach in Pereira in a private academy I took the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) with CIDER (Centro de Idiomas Risaralda) in conjunction with Cambridge on line cost was $400.000 $40.000 for the book which is recommended .But not everything is a bed of roses while the pay is reasonable some academies are bad payers (read one of my old posts getting back a due salary).
I am led to believe that if you teach in a state school you need a certificate de pedagogia (possibly not correct spelling) however I think the TKT is sufficient for private schools.
Good luck pay is around $12.000 to $15.000 ish in Pereira at least possibly more in Bogota but you won't get that many hours .

If you are going to teach English, you had better brush up on your grammar a writing skills. Speaking language does not qualify you to teach it.

Are you sure about that? Your current writing style leads me to believe that you write at the 5th grade level.

If you are going to teach others how to read, write, and speak the English language, I would hope that you would have a very strong command of the language. Just being a native speaker doesn't mean a damn thing if you cannot express yourself properly and clearly. Capitalization and punctuation go a long ways when communicating with others.

...very funny comment ... Are you sure your ready to teach English?

I thought I would give you a hand on your original post.

I posted a question on (the) Ecuador site...I know this site gets more activity and that's why I am posting it here also. I am thinking of taking a TEFL or ESL course...to teach English....I have (seen) saw a couple of jobs posted for Ecuador, (on) Dave's ESL cafe....and I was wanting to know if i could make enough to live comfortably. I know I can make more money teaching business people. Is it hard to find clients?
I am from the U. S. and English is my native language.
Any info is appreciated.

actually you probably won't make more money teaching business people. private colegios offer better pay and benefits than institutes (who send you to companies to teach).

Span,

You can make tons of money teaching business executives if you have the right connections. You contract with a company for a set number of hours a week and you get paid whether or not they show up or not.

In 2000 I would get 50k an hour for a guaranteed 8 hours a week to teach a local management team. The mayors office also kept me on tap for for 40k an hour for three two hour sessions a week.

It is all about who you know and your skills in negotiating.

You pitch it to them that is is 10k per person per hour with a four student minimum, and after 5 students for 50k you will teach up to 8.

thanks flatline, good tip. I've found it tough, though to find those kinds of customers (and I'm talking in bogota with a higher cost of living than manizales and in 2009, ouch). I guess personally I'd rather have a steady job at a colegio with good benefits, pay and hours.
