SO, IM PROBABLY GOING TO BE MOVING TO BOGOTA NEXT YEAR AND AM GOING TO GO THROUGH TESOL TO GET CERTIFIED TO TEACH ENGLISH... I HAVE NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN TEACHING. DOES ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT WAGES OR HOW MUCH I COULD MAKE PER YEAR. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS HOW I WILL BE FINANCIALLY. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN THAT WILL BE ATTENDING A BILINGUAL SCHOOL IN BOGOTA. HERE, I LIVE IN A SUBURB AREA AND AM A LITTLE COMFORTABLE FINANCIALLY. I'M NOT LOOKING TO BECOME RICH IN BOGOTA BUT AM JUST WANTING TO KNOW IF ITS POSSIBLE TO TEACH ENGLISH AND BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOR MY TWO CHILDREN AND I. AT THE SAME TIME BEING ABLE TO MAKE A LITTLE EXTRA MONEY FOR FUN AND LEISURE. THANK YOU.

Leeroy says on Jul 23, 2007, 12:43: I saw an advertisement for the British Council a little while ago that was offering between 1,800,000 and 3,000,000 per month for English teachers. - depending on qualifications and experience. I believe International House pay something similar. Remember that not many language academies are able to sort out visas for foreigners - it is not as easy for someone to walk into Bogota and find an ESL job as (say) Madrid or Bangkok.

Leeroy says on Jul 23, 2007, 12:49: For what it's worth - I wouldn't do it, not with 2 kids in tow, and on a salary of 2 million a month. While you wouldn't starve to death, money would be a continual concern.

Leeroy says on Jul 23, 2007, 13:14: wjp0180 is right when they say the cost of living is pretty cheap - it is (compared to the US or western Europe). But some things are expensive.

coladventure says on Jul 23, 2007, 15:09: Hi there, I own a language school here in Bogota , I just opened and I am paying my teachers around 1.200.000 pesos, for a single is fine but I think for a mum with 2 kids probably is nothing.
