I would like to live in Bogota and teach english. Do most schools require teachers to have a ESL or eqivalent certificates? What is the best way to find a teaching job in Bogota. Thanks for any comments and suggestions. - Karl

The paper credentials are very important in getting the jobs in better schools. While I was responsible for hiring teachers in a bilingual school if the applicant could pass a general test, could speak fluently with me and had some kind of crediential they were acceptable. Remember there are different levels of teacher preparation in Colombia ( with different levels of pay) Normalista, graduate of a normal high school with the extra semisters, Licensiada(sp) with a 4 year degree maybe from a Teaching University. Masteria with a Masters degree in Education etc. Several years ago I was offering well qualified BS/BA applicants 1,500,000 pesos per month Mr. Bill Somondoco 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Bill Turley (Trustee board) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 27, 2007, 08:36: Nope Boyaco is beyond me I am still struggling with Spanglish. I am the world's worse language student, maybe that is why I am able to teach English. I failed Spanish at college in the US, many semisters by the way. Mr. Bill Somondoco 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
