Miguel, you remind me of the Spanish TV in the states always trying to shove it on my face. That’s why I do not like to watch Univision, Telemundo or the rest of tv stations.

Even though you do not watch any of them, you display the very same pattern or behavior. You think everyone on a website about Colombia should be subjected to the same propaganda.

care to elaborate on that? what propaganda am i subjecting people to here on PBH? mexican propaganda? dont think so, if that is what you are referring to....i will however, direct my attention to Mr Potatohead Too Far Right when he spouts his obvious hatred of Mexico since he has this obsession with the mexican illegals in the US. Just as i do the same with the other Potatohead members who trashtalk Colombia and its culture/people....so please clarify your comments.....

let's hear it for mona and miguel. who's on the defensive? or more specifically, why? or did i get the gist of all that wrong?

food--for me--in bogota, is like everything else in bogota. not to my likeing. now out in antioquia. it took me a long time to get used to comida tipica, little if any salt, and never, i mean never, pepper. but, after some beatings from my wife and suegra, i got used to it and now, i almost never use pepper and only a little salt. as for the food. it must be fantastic--not my opinion--rather an opinion of the masses. how many unhealthy paisas do you see? their the healthiest folks, en masse, i've seen in my travels around the world.

The food in Bogota is not generally to my taste - although I will make an exception for empanadas. This is not meant as an insult, nor as a "Colombian food is shit!" blanket generalisation. I just don't like it. I don't see the point in arepas, yuka seems like a poor man's potato, and the meat is generally dry and tough. Oh, and I have never liked rice.

That said, I had the best steak ever in Cartagena.

As you travel from city to city in Colombia, you will discover a world of flavors. In the north of Colombia you will encounter color, pepper and spices.
In Medellin, you’ll find another realm of dishes, from the popular Modongo soup to arepas de choclo. In Bogotá, well, do not take my word for it, just visit the restaurants above because they are highly recommended by a good friend of mine who visits these restaurants on a regular basis.

how come they never use the oven for preparing food? everything is always fried. and what is with all the salt and sugar?

and why are the steaks always about a quarter inch thick (and fried) and taste like shoe leather?

I do like the way they cook beans.

Leeroy says on Jul 22, 2007, 19:40:

Colombia does not seem big on ovens - I myself have a pathetic one in my apartment, it is really a glorified toaster.

Monpirri says on Jul 23, 2007, 02:37:

Of course they use ovens to prepare food, certain food are indeed prepared in ovens.
"and why are the steaks always about a quarter inch thick (and fried) and taste like shoe leather?" That's a matter of personal taste. If you stop eating shoe leather, the beef would taste quite different.

If you cannot find a fine steak house in Bogotá, try carne mamona.
