Tayrona still over run with Israelis?

I was there in 2003 and it was great. Then a friend of mine was in Taganga and Tayrona about a year ago and said it was intolerable due to the number of Israelis. Anyone know the current situation?

For those that are gonna get all bent out of shape all I am saying is I`m not going to Colombia to hang out with Israelis. If I wanted to do that I would go to Israel.

I agree with gorgonabob, they have their seasons. I personally love going to Tayrona on a Monday of a puente weekend. While walking into the park in the afternoon the masses are leaving the park. When you get to the Cabo you will most likely find the least number of people there. The Israelis tend to leave the park before the puentes to party in Taganga and usually cure their hangovers for a few more days before flooding back into the park again. My favorite to spend the puente before heading into the park is to spend the weekend in Minca where even on a puente you will see very few tourists.

We were there less than a month ago and there were many Isralies in both places but there were also a bunch of foriegners in general. If you only want to hang out with Colombians I would suggest a different city such as San Gil.

What's wrong with a horde of crass, bellicose, belligerant soldiers on leave, convinced at a tribal level of their innate superiority, hectoring and brow-beating the local impoverished street vendors over fractions of a cent, xenophobic and clannish in their approach to outsiders, who have learned the lessons of marginalization so well throughout history that all foreigners can be considered alien and trust is based on an imagined ethnicity, cramming their overbearing presence down the throat of anyone in a hundred square mile vicinity?

If you ask me, you out to feel thankful to be allowed in the same room as an Israeli, let alone partake of the same experiences as one of the Elect. Get down on your knees and beseech to be allowed to enter into the august presence of a Member Of the Tribe.

No, they have their sex tourists too. The difference is that they are not so fat that they have to pay for it. I see a lot of Colombian women with Israelis in SM at night. I do see Israelis women here too so some are bringing their gf with them.

If I were in their shoes, it would be nice to visit a country where one does not have to worry about bumping into nationals of the countries that neighbor Isreal.

gatogris says on May 23, 2008, 06:32:

Do you think it smacks of anti-Semitism? You're probably right. However, it is kind of interesting in that it presents the classic paradox of discussions about Israeli national identity. Because citizenship to Israel can be granted based on an ethnic claim, characterizations about the 'nature' of Israelis can immediately be linked to lurking prejudices against Jews, especially when stereotypes about Israelis play into ancient and vicious bromides about Jews, such as miserliness (see the $2 a night anecdote above).

Therefore, while it is entirely acceptable (and encouraged) to rail against Americans pubicly in the new global discourse, it is suspect to launch generalized attacks on Israelis, because it may reflect racial/ethnic prejudice rather than merely national distaste. We should thank the Israeli nation-state for presenting us with this interesting thought experiment.

i really can't comment on the factuality of their obnoxiouness, or any of their other supposed faults as i have not had any contact with them, but i am inclined to give them a little leeway, when they can finally get away and relax a bit. After all they are under 24 hour a day stress defending their country (whether you back israel or not), you have to admit that they are surrounded by enemies that outnumber them by at least a 100 to 1 and blowing off a little steam in colombia, far away from their enemies is not the worst thing in the world.

i once saw a very amusing confrontation between a hotelier and a group of young israelis.

when they were settling their bill, they predictably complained that the 20% discount the hotel offered was inadequate. the hotel manager was called. he listened to his desk clerk, then listened to these sniveling little tightwads.

he hit a few keys on the computer, then printed out the new bill - a bill reflecting 0 discount. and with a gracious smile on his face, asked if they preferred paying the bill, or discussing it further with the police?

they shut up and paid. i knew that day that we'd hired a good manager...;)

Israel is a still small light of freedom, a valiant underdog surrounded by slavering carrion-eaters. Remember Ben-Gurion, the lion of Judea, a reborn David of the Maccabees! Stouthearted Sharon, routing the cowardly Egyptians on Yom Kippur! The one-eyed Moshe Dayan, stalwart and haughty, a noble bull elephant scattering the cowardly hyeneas of Egypt, Jordan and Syria on the Golan Heights. Think of the lightning raid on Entebbe! Israel is a brotherhood of bravery and will never be bowed. Nor will it permit Zionist conspiracy theorists to drag its name through the mud.

OK, so where else might one go? Looking to camp with the girlfriend so we´ll want to rent a tent. Maybe we´d head to Casagrande? What other spots are there along the coast after the park?

Freddy,
Casagrande is very nice. it is possible to rent bungalows on the beach.
There is also another camping place there (cannot remember the name).
Mendihuaca resort is also really nice and not expensive at all (if I remember well around 150k COP all included).
Or you could go to Cabana de Buritaca.
