Taxi Fare Increases

As of the first of the year the minimum fare for taxi service in Medellin went up 300 pesos to 2800. I won't get rich on the small jump in cab fare but every little bit counts. Monica was happy with the rate increase.

The fare to the airport jumped to 39,000 pesos, up 4,000 pesos.

Other modes of public transportation went up slightly as well.

No machetes here Tinto but does a bright shiny new Leatherman count? Based on your post I'm going to recommend that you cut down on some of that nice caffeine intake.

Me, scare the tightwad Gringos? I have too much fun hearing them trying to pronounce español.

Fare increases Good for you. Personally most of my trips seem to run about in the five thousand peso range as it seems we are always going from one side of the city to the other. My wife's family lives in the 12 October area and we stay on the other side of town.

Out of curiosity how are tips. It seems to be a custom not practiced by Colombians. My wife never knew about it until she was a waitress in Aruba and is now embarrassed for her past actions. What is your experience as a taxi driver. Personally I am not rich but I try to always leave a tip.

At every hotel where I stayed I left what I considered minimal tips and got page long thank you letters.
