Taxi Driver Recommendation in Medellin / Airport

Can someone recommend an honest taxi driver that I can use to get me to and back from the airport? I normally have friends take me to and from, but do not have that option this time.

Thanks in advance......

That's 25 bucks for a one hour drive. A bargain if you ask me.

I know that if you call 261-1616 there are the taxis that come from the airport and don`t want to go back empty, I think they charge $45.000 to take you. My girl frind`s husband uses them all the time. And comming back the ones on the airport, are very safe. Or you can call Raul Aguirre 537-2053 a driver that I know and took us to the airport the last time, he lives in that area, and we were in that area also.
Or call William, but he will charge you $80.000 one way to Medellin, he was our privet driver in Rionegro. 537-1026, He is quit a caracter!. And needless to say they don`t speak English.

Feliz Navidad!

In my experience, and keep in mind I speak LITTLE OR NO SPANISH, I have never been ripped off by a taxi driver in Medellin. I took a cab from the international airport, all the way to the Poblado Exito, just past the metro station and it was just under 50,000 pesos. When I left town, the rate was the same.

Each time I picked a random taxi driver. As long as the meter is on, you should be fine.

I pay the 45,000 walking right out the door and get the ID on the door and give a call to G/F>.Never had any problems every two weeks doing that...route from Rio Negro. I use to pay 40,000 and kept on demanding that price when I did not know it changed and also split a taxi a few times meeting somebody on the plane. If we are going in the same direction..but I am a cheapy I know guys and girls I am cheap..

Oh I forget pay 2 mil for a beer for the ride..

My driver is Robinson. His email is: roby666dc at hotmail.com

He drives a private car that is brand new, larger and much more comfortable than a standard taxi. He speaks English well as he lived in the USA before.

He will wait for you at the airport holding a sign with your name on it. He charges 50,000 for the trip which is a very good price for this type of service.

I use to take a coletivo to San Diego (11.000 Pesos, if I remember well...) and then a taxi to my apartment.

What is a coletivo?

robi666 says on Sep 10, 2007, 19:37:

It is a taxi that you share with three more people. Coletivos from the airport usually leave people in San Diego.

The minibus is 5500 pesos. I generally get off at Terminal del Norte and grab a local cab to avoid the traffic in Centro. The minibus terminates near Hotel Botero Plaza and Hotel Nutibarra in Centro.

The last minibus of the day leaves around 8:00 pm. If you come in on AA from MIA, you will not make the last bus.

robi666 says on Sep 11, 2007, 06:14:

Yes, Tom, the minibus is also an option. My problem with the minibus is that it leaves me far away from my apartment.

I'm glad that you have such honest taxi drivers in MDE; some of the drivers in BOG would steal a hot stove without gloves!

tomtom33 says on Sep 11, 2007, 08:20:

Loid, if they were so honest, you could just grab a cab from the line for the ride down the hill while carrying your passport, credit/ATM cards, and maybe more cash than normal.

I'm not as dumb as I look.

I also know a good man who drives taxi here in Medellin. He charges 50 mil for the airport. I pay him $60. He does not drive like a crazy man. He will carry all your luggage for you and is happy to do it. He is very trustworthy and will wait for you at the airport even if you plane is late. He is trying hard to learn English and often dresses like a gringo. You can't help but like this guy. His name is Fabian here is his cell number 313-751-8481.
