Tattoos, Tongue Rings and Body Piercing

This is common in the United States. Colombia cities of say less than 100,000 it is not common at all. Especially men, who in the United States run the spectrum from Military to Bikers, Rappers, sport figures or just plain like them. My experience is limited as I have not spent much time in the larger cities.

The exception seems to be women who have small tattoos on their lower backs, ankles and a few other places I noticed in Cartagena.

Is Colombia waiting for this fad or is it just not popular ?

Rock 'n Roll I hate to categorise people, (but I will) I have found that the people that listen to alternative rock, techno, heavy metal, death metal gothic metal and all the metal music variants, the most prone to have either tattoos, Tongue Rings and/or Body Piercing. Tattos are common in young women, not too common but common enough. Virtually all my male classmates at uni (film and television)have several tattos and piercings.

Well as someone into that scene (along w/ my novio) that is probably true (though not exclusively). Most Colombian people I've met in that scene do have body art or augmentation (mostly tats) but that probably comes from the music & US influence. As for myself and my man, neither of us are interested in any of these adornments, but we do like to look at it!!
