Taking booze out of Colombia to the US

I had just a quick question. I have accumulated a small collection of bottles of rum and aguardiente to take back to the US with me. I leave in 10 days. I understand I can take up to 2 bottles, no problem, but after that there is a tax? Assuming this is correct, do you just pay the "tax" at customs in the US airport after showing them your declarations? Thanks for your info. Rob

RJ what's up.....I just came back. Had 4 bottles nicely wrapped in my luggage all all was fine when unpacked from JFK. Nothing claimed as the bottles are not very large to begin with, but If asked I would forget then add on the form, but with a Mil ID you can get away with a little more. Seriously, have not been pegged as yet and have done this many times. Hope this helps.
How much is a collection? If you have 12 you may be pushing the envelope there hehe.

This could be fun, answering posts that are years old.
